The howler monkeys looked down on us
Because they were up in the trees.
They are good at looking down
I don’t think they are scared of heights
They seem pretty confident up there.
They are way more timid than the capuchins though.
They are also much lazier
Although they did some hanging around
And investigating for food
Which was pretty active
But when you have a big belly full of leaves
You mostly want to sleep
These are howler monkeys
They howl, which is a really creepy noise.
Of course that guy wasn’t howling he was just yawning.
Unlike the capuchins, they can hang from just their tails.
Which is pretty weird
The males are black
But the females and young boys are blond
They have big floppy ears
And long fingers
That spread out more than mine
They eat mostly leaves and some fruit and flowers
High up in the trees.
I think this was papaya
Or maybe mango
It was very juicy
Eating juicy fruit with fur is a bad idea
But the monkeys enjoyed it.
It was pretty gross to watch though
They don’t chew with their mouths closed
Monkeys have no manners
They rarely cover their mouths
They are good at making messes
Juicy fur is a big mess

I do not recommend getting juice in your fur
If you have fur
There were some lizards around the Pantanal too.
They were also hard to spot.
Even the big ones.
But none of them were really that big.
Tapirs like to swim.
They don’t swim with just their eyes and nose out of the water like everything else in the Pantanal.
They either have most of their head out
Which isn’t very good for hiding.
Or they drop down
And disappear all the way under water.
Tapirs are kind of like horses and have a mane.
But they look more like elephants
With their bare skin
And noses that move around and grab things like a little trunk.
