The first major set of ruins we passed on the Inca Trail was Patallaqta.
Patallaqta once had about 100 houses which were used by the soldiers that guarded the Willkaraqay Fort on the trail above.
There were also places for travellers down the trail (like us) to stay overnight.
It also had a small temple, probably to the sun.
Patallaqta was burned in 1536 by the Incans to prevent the Spanish from following them down the trail.
