We took a boat from Ushuaia

The world’s southermost city

We didn’t actually take any pictures in Ushuaia

It was full of rich tourists

Heading to Antartica

This is the lighthouse at the end of the world. Kind of. Apparently it’s not the one in the Jules Verne novel, but it is the picture on the cover of some copies of that book.

This sea lion was all lonely

He was just a little guy

All of the other sea lions were on the other side

This would have been prettier if it hadn’t been so cloudy.

Matt took more pictures of the Magellanic Penguins too.

On the beach

with crashing waves

The waves were bigger than the penguins

Penguins splishing

And penguins splashing

Penguins waddling in scenic scenicness

And penguins snoozing in scenic scenicness

Lots of waddling

And swimming

And bringing plants

Down into the nests

Where they can hide

And stare

And snooze

Penguins are awesome

The penguins waddle by the sea

And so do we

We spend a lot less time with our noses in our butts though

We have waterproof coats

So we don’t have to spread butt oil in our feathers

In order to look sharp

And dignified

They look less dignified when bent over

Or when waddling fast

Or slow

Penguins actually don’t look dignified very often

They often look confused.

The Magellanic Penguins have their nests underground.

They only sleep on their bellies on the rocks for fun.

There are a lot of nests

With penguins in them

But we didn’t see any babies.

Even though they should have been in there

They were hiding

They use sticks in their nests

So they have to gather them

And waddle around carrying them

Which is pretty tiring.
