Lions are hard to see in the long grass.
Even when there are a lot of them.
These ones were sleeping.
Most of them at least.
It is hard work being a lion.
But someone has to keep watch.
Even when you are sleepy.
And blend in with the grass.

Lions like to sleep.
But it is hot in the sun so they like the shade.
Like the shade under the truck.
And in the middle of the day the shade isn’t very big.
So they were right underneath us.
This made it hard to leave, so we had to pour water on them.
They didn’t like that.
They got up and glared at us.
So we drove away leaving the unhappy lions behind.
Every little body of water in the Serengeti has hippos.
These ones were napping out of the water.
They looked very funny.
And very happy.
When we first got into the Serengeti it was pretty late, but the sunset was pretty nice.
This is what quite a bit of the Serengeti looks like.
Although a bit dustier when driving.
The word Serengeti means endless plain. Reminds me a bit of home.
With all the dust and the heat there were several dust devils forming here and there.
There were several tree areas too. The leopards need somewhere to hunt and sleep.
We were out one day as the sun set and it was pretty awesome.
