  • Capybara

    Capybara are big swimming rodents.

    image

Like everything else in the Pantanal, they are used as a bird perch.

    image

Even when they are on the move.

    image

They don’t seem to care much about this.

    image

They don’t seem to care much about anything.

    image

Except when they’re yawning, then they look angry.

    image

The female capybaras don’t have the ugly blob on their noses.

    image

    But the male capybaras do.

    image

It helps them mark their territory.

    image

Must be smelly for the birds.

  • Frog

This is not a giant frog.

    image

It might be a grumpy frog.

    image

You would be grumpy too if you were taking a nap in a hammock and someone came along and shook you out.

    image

And shoved a camera in your face.

    image

    And your butt.

    image

    Kerri is not very nice.

  • Pantanal

    We’re in the Pantanal!

    image

The pool is not as nice here.

    image

But that’s OK, because we’re here for some serious wildlife viewing.

    image

The Pantanal is the wetlands area that covers part of Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia.

    image

A lot of it is used for ranch land.

    image

So it looks a lot like Alberta.

    image

But the cows are a bit funny looking.

    image

And there are a lot of termite mounds.

    image

There’s also some other wildlife that we’ll see in a few days just not while walking around.
