The Adventures of Kerri & Matt

This is a yellow billed cardinal.

Whoever named them must have grown up with a really small box of crayons, because their bills are orange.

They look funny with loose feathers.

The juveniles are brown.

And they look even funnier when their red feathers start to come in.

Some just have red stubble.

Some have bloody noses.

Some have red eyeliner.

And some are mostly red with brown spots.

They are all funny looking.

Especially when standing off balance.

They hung out around our hotel.

Therefore Kerri took too many pictures of them.

If she keeps going she’s going to have to search for cardinal facts.

So she’s going to stop here.

Jabiru stork babies are not very cute.

They’re actually pretty ugly.

But don’t tell the mom that.

She’s almost as tall as us and has a big beak.

In the morning they brought sticks up to fix the nest.

The adults gather sticks on the ground.

And carry big beaks full up to the nest.

And the babies helped arrange them in the nest.

So the babies are pretty clever even if they aren’t pretty.

There are four babies in the nest.

Which makes for a pretty big pile of bird.

The nest is very high up in the air.

But they come back to the same nest every year, so they’ve built a tower up so you can see inside.

Both the tower and the tree are now held up by wires.

The babies are quite big.

And will be able to fly soon.

The baby capybaras are back.

You were really worried that they were gone forever, weren’t you?

In the morning they were more playful.

They kept climbing each other.

That one always seemed to start it.

He must be the little brother.

Even though they are obviously twins

This is a black snail kite.

The wind made him all floofy.

He eats snails.

This is a savannah hawk

It looked more dignified.

I think these were savannah hawks too.

But I don’t remember

It’s hard to keep track of birds flying around.
