The Adventures of Kerri & Matt

On day 5 we walked out of the jungle

Crossing raging rivers (on bridges)

It wasn’t that much walking

But it felt like a lot of walking

It was over 40 degrees out

And not that flat

And vicious wildlife was watching us

We wouldn’t have been wetter if we swam

The cormorants weren’t even bothering to try to dry their wings

The whiptails like the heat

But even they were hanging out in the shade

Eventually we walked out of the jungle

Had a big feast

And drove back to the coast.

After dinner Matt went on a birthday creepy crawly search.

Because the bed nets were keeping out more than just mosquitos.

There were lots of moths

And frogs

And beetles

And weird cockroaches

And spiders

And more moths

Matt has no idea what this is

Or what this is

He has a Gonzo nose

This is a really fuzzy moth

Matt woke up on his birthday in luxurious accommodations

With a lot more grey hair

Nevermind, that wasn’t him. He just looked dazed and confused.

For his birthday instead of having to do the really long hard walk out of the jungle

We went the way that takes 5 days but is mostly flat.

Which he was very happy about

Although it was still muddy.

It was also a romantic hike for two

Because everyone else went the other way

But we did still have a guide

We had to zipline across the river

Except gravity didn’t do the work, the guide had to pull us.

But we stayed dry

There’s the birthday boy!

It only took a couple of hours to get to the next campsite

So Matt spent his birthday his favourite way

After he woke up he got a nice chocolate birthday cake

And he blew out the candle on the first try.

We also got to see some waterfalls on Matt’s birthday

They were pretty

But not the most impressive waterfalls we’ve seen

Of course we’ve seen most of the world’s most impressive waterfalls at this point

So most waterfalls are a letdown

Which is why we very rarely go out of our way for waterfalls anymore

But these ones were on our way

And Matt needed a shower
