  • Wildebeests

In the Ngorogoro Crater we saw our first wildebeests.

There were a lot of them even though it was the end of the migration so they are all spread out.

    image

They formed big black lines around the edges of the crater.

    image

They travelled in single file a surprising amount of the time.

    image

They look super funny when they are scratching.

    image

Which they spent a lot of time doing.

  • Ngorogoro Crater

The drive into Ngorogoro crater was not what we expected.

    image

It was much larger and rainy in the morning.

    image

There were breaks in the clouds revealing a dry plain.

    image

We made our way down the side slowly.

    image

    Apparently elephants are good climbers.

    image

They had a good view of the crater below.

    image

The clouds come in every morning we were told which makes for a dramatic entrance.

    image

There were so many animals. And our first wildebeests as you may see in the background.

    image

    Many many hippos.

    image

And finally hyena. They just wander through the herds while the other animals sometimes stare at them.

    image

    Those are all wildebeest.

The clouds hang around the outer rim for quite some time. The only water is in a lake and a few streams running through the crater.
