It had not been a good morning for Calvin.
The caiman got away.
He shook himself off
Which was a little silly because he was still in the water
Took one last look at the caiman
And another look at us.
And another look into the water to make sure he hadn’t missed anything.
Made another big scary yawn
Checked to make sure we still knew he was unimpressed.
But still in charge
And turned back toward the shore
As the splashes dissipated
Up popped a very wet jaguar
With a caiman, several meters away on the right.
Calvin was not impressed.
He wanted breakfast.
But breakfast swam away.
It’s not fair.
He’s supposed to be king of the Pantanal
But he’s still just a clumsy little guy.
With no breakfast.
Calvin got back out of the water all drippy.
Hopped back up into his tree.
And cleaned himself off.
Looking a lot sadder all wet.
He was still keeping an eye on the river.
That caiman was not the brightest
And kept heading back toward the wet kitty.
Looking so sad in his tree.
But we were out of time.
And had to say goodbye to the jaguars.
The caiman floated along
Not realizing he was right underneath a hungry jaguar.
Calvin watched him closely
As he moved along
And way past
Out of reach
Poor Calvin
But then the caiman came back
And Calvin got up
And leaped
Much faster than Kerri was prepared for
And landed in a giant splash
Of jaguar and caiman.
There weren’t a lot of creepy crawlies in the Pantanal
But if you knock on the wrong tree some very vicious ants come out
There were also lots of termite mounds.
The ones in the trees are more fragile and break apart.
The ones on the ground were harder and as big as Matt.
They also make these tunnels to get around.
Colourful flies like poo.
