There were two different types of vultures in Etosha. They don’t usually get along.
But today they seemed to be willing to share.
The ostriches were back and thy seemed to be showing off quite a bit.
Sometimes they would just grab a seat and rest up for a bit.
They are still funny looking.
Also very big and glad to be far away from them.
They didn’t mind all the dust and would have a seat near the road.
In Etosha we got our best look at a black rhino.
Black rhinos can lift their heads higher because they eat bushes and trees instead of grass.
They can also look right at you and smile with their funny hooked lip.
Their long necks are more flexible than their white cousins.
There are white rhinos, like the one we saw up close.
They have a big hump on their neck right behind the ears, so they can’t lift their heads very far, which is OK because they eat grass.
This is another black rhino.
The springbok is the animal that the South African rugby team uses as their mascot.
The young ones have tiny horns, while the older ones are easily identified with the calliper shape.
Some were super lazy and got right into the waterhole to get a drink at mouth level.
This guy was gigantic.
He kept adjusting his antenna like he was trying to get a better signal or something.
He may have been broadcasting to all of the lesser grasshoppers in his kingdom.
