Lions are hard to see in the long grass.
Even when there are a lot of them.
These ones were sleeping.
Most of them at least.
It is hard work being a lion.
But someone has to keep watch.
Even when you are sleepy.
And blend in with the grass.

Lions like to sleep.
But it is hot in the sun so they like the shade.
Like the shade under the truck.
And in the middle of the day the shade isn’t very big.
So they were right underneath us.
This made it hard to leave, so we had to pour water on them.
They didn’t like that.
They got up and glared at us.
So we drove away leaving the unhappy lions behind.
Every little body of water in the Serengeti has hippos.
These ones were napping out of the water.
They looked very funny.
And very happy.
In the Ngorogoro Crater we saw our first wildebeests.
There were a lot of them even though it was the end of the migration so they are all spread out.
They formed big black lines around the edges of the crater.
They travelled in single file a surprising amount of the time.
They look super funny when they are scratching.
Which they spent a lot of time doing.
