The view in the morning was amazing. We were the first ones up in the morning so were the first on the trail.
This was a beautiful hummingbird with a bright pink spot on his back. Unfortunately he caught me off guard right after sunrise, so this is the best picture we have.
The trail started through a forested area and went past a small creek.
This is the the view from the rest stop at 3800m elevation.
This is in the other direction showing the clouds coming in.
Here is us resting at the rest stop.
Then we started to climb. Up and up and up. This is the view of Dead Woman’s Pass, the highest point on the trail. The dead woman is much easier to see from the other side, but by the time we got there it was cloudy.
This is looking back down the trail from the top of the pass.
Here we are at the top.
Then we started down the trail on the other side. This is where the original Incan stone path really started.
This side of the pass had more greenery and more hummingbirds.
There was also a really big waterfall.
And some really funky flowers.
And some pink and purple flowers.
And a chubby bird with beady red daemon eyes.
And his skinnier brother.
Toward the top of the second pass there were a couple of lakes. You could hear tons of frogs chirping, but we didn’t see any.
This is Kerri next to a giant boulder near the top of the 2nd pass.
Kerri was distracted by another flower.
Then we started back downhill.
While we were resting a hummingbird decided to show off right in front of us.
And that was the end of the second day.
