The wildlife hunting started before we even left for the Pantanal.
Do you see him?
He’s right there.
He was under our sunbed at the pool.
A local man came up to Kerri and said “lagertixa enorme” and pointed under our sunbed.
Kerri understood that perfectly, because she speaks Spanish, and it sounds just like “lagertija”.
So she went poking around under the sunbed trying to get a picture. See him?
There he is!
Then a staff member came to ask what she was doing, and she said “lagertija”!
And the staff member said “no English”.
So apparently Kerri can only listen to Portuguese.
Do you think she can actually speak Spanish?
Kerri then said “animale enorme”, and the staff member looked alarmed.
He was only actually big compared to the other lizards at the pool, which were all too fast to get pictures of.
Kerri is not going to try to speak any more Portuguese.

Hahahaha – poor Kerri. At least the Portuguese part of your trip doesn’t last too long compared to the Spanish part. It’ll be interesting to find out how well a person can learn Spanish talking mostly to an AI.
Lagertixas (?) camouflage pretty well in the grass.
Poor staff person, she’s the one that is going to have nightmares about giant animals under the bed.
I’m pretty good at understanding native Spanish speakers speak Portuguese, because they speak slowly and with a Spanish accent. I have a lot more trouble when they’re actually speaking Spanish at 1000 words per minute. In general I think my vocabulary is pretty good, but my grammar is atrocious and my pronunciation is hopeless.
