Philodendron gigas , an unusually large climbing houseplant with large shiny leaves.

The leaves of Philodendron gigas grow up to 125 cm long and 90 cm wide. This tropical climber is endemic to a road in Panama that runs through the territory of the indigenous 'Guna' people.

Care instructions.

The natural habitat of Philodendron gigas is muddy mountain slopes rich in iron oxide. As a houseplant, however, it needs a slightly more well-drained soil mixture to thrive. A mixture of orchid bark, sphagnum moss and perlite is suitable, e.g. our Aroid & Orchid Soil.

Additionally, this Philodendron needs a plant support to hold on to, otherwise the leaves will never reach their full potential. As an indoor houseplant, it should be placed in indirect, bright light.

Botanical description

Philodendron gigas is endemic to the area around a road that passes through the territory of the 'Guna' indigenous people in Panama. The plant is believed to be endangered.

Appearance.

The petioles are 98-137 cm long and 2-3 cm in diameter. The leaves are heart-shaped and 81-125 cm long and 37-90 cm wide. The upper surface is dark green, velvety and dull, the lower surface is slightly paler, semi-glossy to dull, sometimes pale reddish between the veins.

Propagation.

Philodendron gigas is easily propagated by taking stem cuttings. Cut a section of the stem with at least one leaf and some aerial roots, and plant in moist sphagnum moss or place in water until roots develop. Then plant in an airy soil mixture.

Philodendron gigas makes a great houseplant and perfect for exotic indoor vibes. This unusual plant with large leaves is suitable as an ornamental plant and can give an incredible tropical feel with its large leaves. Buy Philodendron gigas online!

Too expensive, tastes fine
I was worried based on reviews, but I think these taste fine! I don't eat a lot of candy anyway, but sometimes I just need 1-2 pieces to satisfy a sweet/sour craving. These are great since I'm on the Keto diet. They aren't overly sour for sure, but they still have some sourness to them. There's a bit of an aftertaste since they are made with sugar substitutes, but nothing terrible. My only complaint is the price. Way too expensive for the amount you get.

Not bad
The cherry tastes too much like cherry cough syrup. The grape fruit and apple aren't bad. For a no sugar candy for diabetics when you're having a craving, not bad.

I Wouldn’t Call Them Sour
Did I enjoy this candy? Absolutely. Did it meet my expectations? No. I have anxiety. I’ve heard about the technique of using a sour candy to distract from an anxiety attack. Well, I also have insulin resistance so I have been looking for a sugar-free sour candy which it turns out is a tall order. Unfortunately, I was disappointed when I tasted these because they really don’t taste sour. While I enjoy the flavors (especially grapefruit) they aren’t sour. A big bummer. I do think the nutrition for this candy is awesome, though. They have a good amount of fiber and are made with xylitol which is great for oral health. Overall, I think they are pricey and not necessarily worth the cost considering they are not anything special outside of the nutritional values. Bummer!
