Philodendron Gigas is a stunning tropical plant that belongs to the family Araceae. Native to the rainforests of Central and South America, this plant is highly sought after for its narrow, velvet and unique growth habit. With proper care, Philodendron Gigas can thrive and become a beautiful addition to any indoor garden.

1. Light Requirements:

Philodendron Gigas prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially during the morning or evening hours, but prolonged exposure to intense sunlight can scorch its leaves. Place your plant near a north or east-facing window to provide it with the ideal lighting conditions. If you're unable to provide sufficient natural light, you can also use fluorescent grow lights placed 12-18 inches above the plant to supplement its lighting needs.

2. Temperature and Humidity:

This tropical plant thrives in warm and humid conditions. Ideally, maintain a temperature range between 65-85¬?F (18-29¬?C). Avoid placing the plant near drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations, as it can negatively impact its growth. To increase humidity, mist the leaves regularly or place the pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles. A humidity level of around 50-60% is ideal for Philodendron Gigas.

3. Watering:

The watering needs of Philodendron Gigas vary depending on the season and the environmental conditions. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, ensuring that the soil remains slightly moist but not soggy. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering can cause the leaves to wilt and dry out. It's always better to underwater than overwater this plant. Adjust your watering frequency accordingly, but in general, watering once every 7-10 days should be sufficient.

4. Soil and Potting:

Philodendron Gigas prefers well-draining soil that retains some moisture. A mixture of regular potting soil, peat moss, and perlite or orchid bark will work well. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes at the bottom to prevent waterlogging. Repotting should be done every 1-2 years, preferably in spring, using a slightly larger pot to accommodate the plant's growth.

5. Fertilization:

Feed your Philodendron Gigas with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization frequency to once every 6-8 weeks during fall and winter. Always dilute the fertilizer to half or quarter strength as excessive fertilization can burn the roots and damage the plant. Additionally, flush the soil with plain water every few months to remove any built-up salts.

6. Pruning and Maintenance:

Philodendron Gigas has a bushy growth habit and can develop aerial roots. Regular pruning will help maintain its shape and encourage new growth. Trim any yellowing or dead leaves using clean and sterilized pruning shears. You can also propagate the plant from stem cuttings during pruning.

7. Pests and Diseases:

Philodendron Gigas is relatively resistant to pests, but it can occasionally be affected by mealybugs, spider mites, or scale insects. Keep an eye out for these pests and treat them promptly with an organic insecticide or by gently wiping the leaves with a damp cloth. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot and ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases.

By providing the right amount of light, humidity, and water, along with regular maintenance and care, your Philodendron Gigas will thrive and reward you with its lush foliage, making it a captivating centerpiece for your indoor garden.

Fun
Format: Paperback
Fun story for reluctant readers with the comics. My daughter is very picky about what she reads and this caught her eye.

Really fun and engaging book
Format: Paperback
My 9 year old loves graphic novels, and has previously read the Cat Ninja series, so when I saw this I wanted to get it for her. She said it was a really fun and funny book, and she loved the time traveling aspect of it. She sat and read the whole thing through without stopping. And she gives it 5 stars. :) So if you have a kiddo who likes graphic novels like Cat Ninja, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, etc., this is a good book for them!

Fun read
Format: Paperback
My son says he doesnt enjoy reading but once he gets going he quickly gets pulled in. He said he'd seen the Epic books at school and he typically liked them, so we gave it a try. He read it in about 2 days, its summer so its amazing he read to begin with, but in asking him, he said it was a good story and it was easy to read. Honestly I like my kids to have books that are easy to read but will throw in the occasional big word as a learning opportunity. The book quality itself is really nice. From cover to cover the book is well made and feels durable. The illustrations are bright and well done. Overall I would highly recommend this to any child who might enjoy time travel with a touch of history.

A fun, comic style book
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
My fourth grader really enjoyed this book and asked if it was a part of a series. We didn't sit down and read it in one setting and usually when that happens we forget to come back and finish a book..... But she didn't forget about this one. Will probably reread it in the future too. The pages are nice quality and the colors are bright. The print is a little bit on the teeny side; But that's pretty typical in comic style print. We were really happy with it! I think a kid as young as second or third grade could also enjoy this book if they are reading skills are a little on the stronger side. I've sat with 5th graders who would read it this level too.
