Flora is a stalker.
She slowly stalks up on her prey.
Her prey consisting of meat in a tin.
Because although she is quite ferocious
You’ve probably already guessed she’s not exactly wild.
She was bored of showing Kerri and Matt around the mountains.
And Kerri would not give her a moment of privacy.
It’s hard work being a tour guide.
Even if you’re really pretty.
You have to keep an eye on people at all times.
Flora likes to run.
Even in the wind.
Sometimes she turns.
Sometimes she wades.
Sometimes she looks for things in the water.
Sometimes intently.
She is very pretty.
Sometimes a bit scary.
She is a wolf after all.
A mighty hunter.
The geese at Burnaby Lake are very curious.
But sometimes they get angry.
They bob their heads in and out of the water looking for food.
Their eyes are covered with a nictitating membrane when they dive, which looks funny.
Then they are all wet.
Wet and curious.
They are curious because lots of people feed them.
Mostly they feed them things not good for geese.
So the geese have learned to beg.
Kerri doesn’t feed them because geese shouldn’t eat things that aren’t good for geese.
(Kerri types while devouring her third freezie of the day)
But the geese think the camera might be junk food.
So they sometimes try to eat it.
Which leads to funny pictures.
No geese were harmed in the taking of these photos.
Kerri got a well deserved nipping.
There are some teenage ducks in Burnaby Lake.
They’re just starting to get their fancy colours. But they’ll never be as fancy as this guy.
They are doing their best to look handsome.
Except when he sniffs his butt.
The grown ups sniff their butts too.
And scratch their necks.
This is a sandhill crane.
There are two of them hanging out around Burnaby Lake.
They seem to get along with the geese, which is weird because the geese don’t get along with anybody.
They are taller than the geese but not as fat.
They are very skinny when they stand up straight.
That’s probably because they’re really into yoga.
They like tree pose.
And Warrior III
And forward folds.
Their thighs are too short and their ankles are too long so dancer’s pose looks a bit different. But you can tell that’s what it is because the foot is by the head.
I’d never heard of the nose-to-armpit twist before.
But they can do it on one leg.
As well as the nose-to-butt.
