Flores is on an island.
The island is in a lake.
There is a bridge to the land, but there are also a lot of boats.
There are turtles in the lake.
There is at least one turkey on the island.
He is loud.
There is also a kingfisher.
He didn’t hold still for a picture.
The pigeons tend to stand still.
We had to fly out of Flores due to a landslide. We flew over a lot of hills.
Guess what!
That wasn’t enough spider monkey pictures.
You should have known that when you saw the baby.
But there aren’t any more baby pictures
The one with the baby stayed high up where it was hard to get good pictures.
This one was down much closer
So the pictures are a bit better.
He was also busy looking for food
Which involved a lot of hanging
And twisting
Which was pretty entertaining.
Their tails are amazingly strong.
I wish I had a tail to hang from.
Warning: We only saw one spider in Tikal so there is no separate creepy crawly post, he’s at the bottom. But he’s small and pretty.
This is an ocellated turkey.
It is a weird looking bird
It has peacock like feathers
And bumps all over its face.
And scary feet

This is a pigeon, but he is kind of pretty for a pigeon.

This is a howler monkey
There were lots of young ones
Their dangly bits don’t match the rest of their skin and stand out.
It looks even funnier when they’re old and wrinkled.

There were spider monkeys hanging around at Tikal.
They hang by their tails
They also have long fingers
And long arms
This one is carrying a baby on his back
It was difficult to figure out which limbs belong to which monkey
The baby was very cute
But she was hard to see.
Because she was mostly behind her dad.
So you could only see her arms.
And sometimes her little legs
On this one you can see part of her little tail.
But most of the time it was just her little arms.
The tall temples at Tikal poke out of the jungle
So when you climb them you can see all the other temples poking out of the jungle
And take selfies with them
It’s a long climb to the top.
But from the ground it’s hard to see the temples through the trees.

Of course, from the top you can only see the tops of the temples.

Even from up close the bottoms are often covered in plants
But the bits sticking out are pretty impressive
Once you make it up to where you can see them
The temples look pretty cool
Even when they’re covered in jungle
Matt was hot and tired
Kerri told him to take a picture of her at the top of the temple but he refused to get up from his seat in the shade so you can barely see her.
Eventually he got up and did it properly.
