  • Historical-Romantic-Comedy-Behind-The-Scenes-Adventure

We went for a 90 minute Historical-Romantic-Comedy-Behind-The-Scenes-Adventure at the Eiffel Tower. Somehow they managed to deliver on that promise.

This is the ductbank in the bunker that was retrofitted as a communications room when the Eiffel Tower was retrofitted as a radio tower. It is surprisingly far from the tower.

    image

This is the machine room that controls the elevators.

    image

    These are the big weights.

    image

That push the hydraulic pistons up and down.

    image

Which push the little cars back and forth.

    image

To pull the elevators up and down.

  • Eiffel Tower At Night

We went to the Eiffel Tower at night.

    image

    Without a tripod.

    image

    Weeeeeeeeeeee!

    image

    Woooooooo!

    image

    Selfie Time!

    image

    It was raining.

    image

Then it stopped and there were big puddles.

    image

    Then we got close.

    image

    And closer.

    image

    Then right underneath.

    image

Then it was the top of the hour and lights started flashing and everything went crazy.

    image

Or maybe just Kerri went crazy.

    image

Because she didn’t have a tripod.

    image

And there were lots of lights.

    image

We went to the second floor and Matt attempted to imitate Haley. But he didn’t have any glasses to catch so Kerri got a picture this time. He also didn’t get stuck.

    image

    The view was nice.

    image

    And the tower was pretty.

  • In the Louvre

We saw lots of other stuff at the Louvre. But we only took pictures of stuff that amused us.

Our French is very, very bad and Google Translate says that this is a pot which symbolically contains either a child or boiled water from the Nile river.

    image

This looks like a maze but is apparently some kind of basin to recreate the Nile flood.

    image

Here is Jesus doing sit ups.

    image

This stone statue is broken and he’s still trying to figure out what happened.

    image

This Assyrian warrior is cuddling an unimpressed lion.

    image

And this is a painting of Darth Vader having a lightsaber fight across from a classical Greek statue.

  • Outside the Louvre

The art outside the Louvre is newer, and therefore weirder.

This is Untitled 13 (Watchers). I don’t think you should be able to give a second title to an untitled sculpture. But clearly I don’t make the rules of modern art. It is made of bronze, it’s just painted to look like toilet paper.

    image

    This spins slowly.

    image

People stand inside it, look confused and take selfies.

    image

The chandelier in this beach ball also spins. It scares away the seagulls.

    image

This guy is not impressed by the art. Or maybe he just doesn’t like the birds.

    image

    ARRRGGGG those pooping birds!

  • Egyptian Stuff in the Louvre

There was lots of Egyptian stuff in the Louvre.

    image_thumb

    Egyptians had big feet.

    image_thumb1[1]

I’m glad we don’t write in hieroglyphs.

    image_thumb2

Kerri’s writing is hard enough to read. Kerri’s drawings would be hopeless.

    image_thumb3

I’m pretty sure the message here is “never turn your back on a snake in a boat”.

    image_thumb4

    Mummies are mummified.

    image_thumb5

The Egyptians drew a lot of hybrid animals. Bear/lion/crocodiles are awesome because they can pout properly because the have lion paws.

    image_thumb6

This is a mummified baby crocodile.

    image_thumb7

    And these are cats.

    image_thumb8

This is presumably a tubby pharaoh.

    image_thumb9

The 8 legged wasp eats grass under the towering mushroom next to the woman in the giant dress.

    image

An evil beetle is thirsty because the cup of water in the bomb is empty.

    image

I don’t know what they needed the Rosetta stone for, these are easy to translate!

    image

This depicts a banquet and above is the menu. Did they chop off all four of the duck’s heads before eating it?
