  • Not Quite Africa

We got to see baby lion cubs on the lush, green, perfectly mowed African savannah!

    image

They were all very lazy except for this one that kept licking the other ones because it wanted to play.

    image

But everyone else wanted to nap.

    image

    Poor big kitty.

    image

They are barely kittens at this point, the males are starting to get manes.

    image

Dad actually seemed to think it was time for some new kittens.

    image

    Mom did not agree.

    image

    Even when he begged.

    image

There were much newer babies in the crocodile exhibit! For some reason the zoo doesn’t advertise them on their list of babies.

    image

The other African animals looked very awkward in the green dandelion covered grass.

    image

They were snoozing even though Toronto is not nearly as hot as home.

    image

We didn’t manage to find Timon in Africa because he was hanging out in Toronto.

    image

The hippopotamuses begged for food like puppies.

    image

    They like carrots.

    image

Their teeth don’t seem suited to crunching carrots, but somehow they seem to manage OK.

    image

They aren’t very good at catching melons.

    image

But they really seem to like lettuce.

    image

They should really finish what is in their mouth before begging for more though.

  • We Made It!

We got to Toronto and started cleaning the apartment.

    image

    And made the bed.

    image

Matt picked up dumplings, so Kerri took a break on the only piece of furniture in the house.

    image

Then we went to Costco and doubled the volume of our worldly possessions.

    image

Then we tried the “where are my packages” Greyhound app. They are located somewhere called Oops. Does anyone know what province that is in?

  • Day 3 of the Cross Country Adventure

This morning was our first time in Wisconsin!

    image

The land of plentiful Cheese Food!

    image

We soon found our only scheduled actually-get-out-of-the-car-and-explore stop: The House On The Rock: a tourist trap known primarily for being a tourist trap in the middle of rural Wisconsin. Filled with weird and wonderful artefacts both authentic and fake.

    image

    It was closed.

    image

    Kerri was sad.

    image

Then came our first time in Illonois!

    image

And our first time in Indiana! (The driver is awake. He’s just blinking.)

    image

We slept in Michigan, Indiana. Which was kind of confusing.

    We only drove 851km today.

  • Day 2 of the Cross Country Adventure

This morning Kerri found the cookie that Steve gave Kerri to give to Matt. Thanks Steve!

    image

The cookies Matt’s parents gave us are much less powdery. Thanks Mom!.

    image

The bottom part of Saskatchewan is surprisingly bumpy.

    image

Near the border we even had to drive uphill!

    image

First time in North Dakota for both of us!

    image

Then we got to the geographical center of North America. After a day and a half of driving Matt was looking for any excuse to get out of the car. But he still couldn’t be bothered to get out of the car for this.

    image

Next stop was the world’s largest buffalo.

    image

Near the World’s Largest Buffalo there is a real albino buffalo. But apparently even albino buffalo are surprisingly good at hiding. The only white thing we could find in the field was this garbage.

    image

We missed the DC powerline crossing. We may have driven right under it but failed to notice.

We drove through Fargo too, and didn’t notice.

Then it was our first time in Minnesota!

    image

We also missed the world’s largest hand rolled ball of twine rolled by a single man. Kerri is extremely disappointed. She thinks Matt did it on purpose.(I did not, there just weren’t any signs that indicated where to go to see it). Does that sound like the kind of thing that wouldn’t have signs to you?

And that was the second 1014km!
