We had fun in the river

Even if the fish were boring.

The river was pretty cool.

Most of the brightly coloured fish in the water turned out to be leaves.

It was almost more fun to look for monkeys outside of the water

Than to look at the fish in it

And the grass

But it was raining out there anyway.

And the fish were OK

Fish don’t mind the rain

You’ll never see a fish with an umbrella

Though some have fins big enough to cover themselves.

We went snorkelling in a river

The water was very clear

Because it’s fed by springs.

There were lots of the little fish

That like to eat dead skin

They especially seemed to like Kerri’s lips, which she did not appreciate.

There was plenty of other food around for them.

There were some bigger fish too.

That were kind of cool looking

And some little catfish.

Overall we felt the fish were not as colourful as advertised

And it was a lot of dead wood.

And snail shells

But the visibility was definitely a lot better than any other river we’d been in.

There were a lot of scarlet macaws

They like to hang out together

They are smaller than the Hyacinth Macaws

And more scarlet

They are pretty

Unless they’re floofed up, then they’re funny looking

The rest of the time they’re dignified

Even when they have their fingers in their mouths.

They fly around in pairs

Swooping

And soaring

Sometimes there are bigger groups too.

Just flying around the canyon.

But they’re not often alone.

As mentioned, there were a lot of scarlet macaws.

And they’re funny looking, so we took a lot of pictures.

Not quite as many as we took of jaguars.

But enough that this is going to go on for a while.

They have funny looking tail feathers

All of their feathers look funny when floofed.

Or in other awkward positions.

Or taking off.

It’s amazing they manage to look dignified ever.

We didn’t name the macaws.

Because we can’t tell them apart.

And they get all mixed up when they fly around.

They enjoy flying back and forth across the sinkhole for reasons only they know

I guess they just like to fly for fun sometimes and crash into their friends.

They’re a very social species
