  • Stained Glass in Notre Dame

The stained glass was very bright.

    image_thumb_thumb

Some parts were far more colourful than others.

    image_thumb1_thumb

They were so large that it was hard to take a picture with the whole thing in it and really get an idea of what all the different panels were.

    image_thumb7_thumb

    Here’s a more abstract panel.

    image_thumb5_thumb

There was a lot of stained glass.

  • Inside Notre Dame

It was a Sunday morning inside the Cathedral, so the primary activity was taking pictures of the priest giving his sermon.

    image_thumb2

Selfie sticks were strictly forbidden, and thus everywhere.

    image_thumb6

The back of the Cathedral was filled with the gift shop.

    image_thumb8

In case during the sermon you felt the sudden urge to own a gold bird’s nest or cross made of woven gold. Or a souvenir book  worth more than would be reasonable if it was also carved out of solid gold.

The candles make a lot of soot which builds up on the stained glass.

    And on the ceiling.

  • Sewer Museum

This is the smelliest museum we visited.

    image

The system has been gradually improved and expanded from a time when they just used stormwater to flush sewage straight into the river. So it still contains mixed stormwater and sewage, and they treat all of it.

Here’s some wires Kerri took a picture of for some reason.

  • Museum of Super Old French Stuff

These bison were carved 16,000 years ago.

    image

This horse is only 14,000 years old.

    image

But this face is 25,000 years old and doesn’t even have wrinkles.

    image

    This rock was smashed.

    image

To make stone tools like these.

    image

    These were musical instruments.

    image

    This was something really cool.

    image

Super duper cool and awesome too.

    image

But it’s been almost two months since we visited the museum of super old French stuff.

    image

And the label is in French.

    image

To be honest, I’m not even sure we figured out what it was then.

  • Historical-Romantic-Comedy-Behind-The-Scenes-Adventure

We went for a 90 minute Historical-Romantic-Comedy-Behind-The-Scenes-Adventure at the Eiffel Tower. Somehow they managed to deliver on that promise.

    image

This is the ductbank in the bunker that was retrofitted as a communications room when the Eiffel Tower was retrofitted as a radio tower. It is surprisingly far from the tower.

This is the machine room that controls the elevators.

    image

    These are the big weights.

    image

That push the hydraulic pistons up and down.

    image

Which push the little cars back and forth.

    image

To pull the elevators up and down.
