retro 1940s dresses 1940s Junior Guild Original Swing Dress – Shrimpton CoutureI love forties dresses and this little beauty is amazing! It may even be late thirties and the color alone is just outstanding this would have been hand dyed to get it to this color and for it to have survived all this time with no fading is amazing! The color was very hard to capture so I have included a swatch that matches the actual color pretty closely. A lot of well known designers were designing under the Youth Guild label and I wish we could

I love forties dresses and this little beauty is amazing! It may even be late thirties and the color alone is just outstanding - this would have been hand dyed to get it to this color and for it to have survived all this time with no fading is amazing! The color was very hard to capture so I have included a swatch that matches the actual color pretty closely. A lot of well known designers were designing under the Youth Guild label and I wish we could tell who did this beauty! The design is amazing! The fabric is cut mostly on the bias and I love the way the top portion buttons. The waist nips in and there are attached ties to cinch it further. The skirt is full and swingy and there are huge top set pockets on each hip. The fabric is a cotton linen mix with the texture and look of a fine linen. All hand finished. Just amazing and in excellent condition

Bust: to 19" flat across the back from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14" from side seam to side seam
Hips: open
Bodice: 15.5" from shoulder seam to bottom waist seam including the 4" band
Skirt length: 25" from lower waist seam to bottom hem

Unlined and closes with a side painted metal zipper that looks to have been replaced sometime in the 1960s. There are a couple of small repairs - tiny - near the top of the zipper. The belt is attached. The buttons are original and have teeny chips on their edges.

great book
Format: Kindle
My 6 year old daughter really likes it. She wants to read #2. “I liked the ghosts,” she said. There’s sweet relationships between the characters and a fun mystery.

Get Them Excited to READ
Format: Paperback
I bought this book for my daughter's 8th birthday. She reads on a mid-third grade level and I needed some chapter books that would hold her interest. She is big on starting books but they "bore" her and don't hold her attention for 100 pages of text. I thought I'd buy her a couple of "starter" books so if she liked them we could continue the series. She is really into Monster High right now so I thought this series might interest her. I was right. She has told me daily how much she enjoys this books and actually looks forward to her 20 minute reading time both at home and at school. Every night during bath time she tells me what she read that day. As a book lover I am so excited to see her finally showing some interest in reading! I knew if I found the right material I could get her hooked.

Great entry-level chapter book. My students enjoy it. Some very difficult vocabulary and made-up words.

... 8 year old son is having a lot of fun with this book
Format: Paperback
My 8 year old son is having a lot of fun with this book. It has a good balance of illustration and text. He has struggled to read and is considered average for his age. We have tried to get him interested in a series and have purchased many other books. Since reading Haunted library #1 he has requested the next book in the series. He also likes the Yeti files and is waiting on pins and needles for the next in that series to be released. It is such a relief to finally get him excited about reading!
