The Monstera deliciosa variegata albo is a very special plant that is still wildly popular. Each leaf has a different pattern, giving each plant a unique appearance. Over the years, this houseplant has gained a lot of fans because of the way it continues to surprise with each new growth. In the wild, the green version can reach a height of 20 feet by climbing up trees. Using a moss pole will also help its growth, as it is a plant that likes to climb. Allowing it to climb also increases the chances of this plant making large leaves. In addition, it is then easier to grow the plant into the desired shape.

Mean and variegated spots

Monstera means 'monstrous' or 'abnormal' and deliciosa means 'deliciousness,' because of the beautiful large leaves this plant can get. 'Albo' stands for the white spots in the leaves, which this species has acquired due to a mutation in its DNA. Because of this mutation, this plant produces less to no chloroplasts locally, which gives the leaves lighter spots there. In the absence of chloroplasts, the leaves become white.

Special White Edition

What this means is that this plant has a lot of white in the leaves and in the stems. However, the pattern of the variegata is still a surprise.

Care

Beginner plant

The Monstera deliciosa variegata albo is a hole plant with white spots that is relatively easy to care for despite the spots in the leaves. Therefore, it is a suitable beginner plant for people who already have some experience with easy tropical plants.

Leaf chlorophyll and sunlight

Nevertheless, the variegata in the leaves does make the plant a bit more sensitive than the green variety. Because chloroplasts take care of photosynthesis (converting solar energy and carbon dioxide into nutrients for the plant), the local lack of these cell organelles means that the plant here may have trouble getting enough energy to grow well and stay healthy. But the white part of the leaf is also more susceptible to burning. Therefore, it is important that you put the plant in a place where there is plenty of sunlight during the day, but that this light is well filtered through window coverings, for example.

Watering

The Monstera deliciosa variegated albo likes clean water (preferably rainwater at room temperature). In doing so, the plant may dry out slightly before another watering. However, make sure the substrate does not stay wet for too long, as this houseplant does not like wet feet. During the growing season, a small amount of houseplant food may be added.

Care in the living room

Humidity

In addition, the Monstera deliciosa variegata albo is an excellent plant to be kept in the living room, because it can also grow well at fairly normal humidity (50%-75%). Just be sure to avoid drafts and air conditioning with the plant. Air conditioning can dry out the air too much for a plant. A fan, on the other hand, can actually promote growth.

Temperature

What makes this plant even more suitable for the living room is the fact that they can stand well in 17-25 degrees Celcius. A few degrees cooler is also possible, but then you will see that growth will stagnate and the plant will have a little more trouble maintaining resistance.

Monstera borsigiana variegata albo?

In addition, there have been rumors that the Monstera deliciosa variegata albo also has a borsigiana version, which has a slightly different growth habit. However, there is no genetic difference between them. It is the same kind of plant, but in different circumstances it will have a different growth habit. When the plant is in a bright room with lots of indirect light and a good climate, it will tend to get nice, large leaves with lots of holes and compact leaves. So if the plant is growing with long stems and small leaves and instead you want to get large leaves, then it is time to look at its care.

Repot

This plant may be repotted when the roots completely fill out the pot. Then it is best to go for a Potsize of 3-4 cm larger. Because this plant roots very easily. In terms of potting soil, it is best to choose a well-draining mix of perlite, peat and coconut fiber. Usually repotting once every 1 or 2 years will be sufficient. The growing season is best for this. If a lot of mineral-rich substrate is used, extra feeding can be stopped for a few months to prevent accumulation of minerals in the potting soil. Too much minerals can cause damage to the roots and unsightly spots in the leaves. A Monstera deliciosa variegata albo does not need much houseplant nutrition to do well.

Florida resident and I LOVE THIS... for kids too! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Honest review here. We live in Florida so I have tried a lot of sunscreens and this is my new favorite stick... HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It goes on smoothly and is a thin but white formula. So it shows up and blocks sun but it isn't so thick that it is annoying. Our family spends a lot of time at the beach and outside in the sun. Sun protection is something we take very seriously. I always require SPF 50 and I like a solid block that has Zinc Oxide. So that limits my choices b/c it has to have 50 plus the ZO. I love that this is hypoallegenic (b/c some of them can contain toxic materials that are highly allergic especially for children). My favorite feature is that it is PABA, phthalates, fragrances, parabens, dyes, alcohol and oxybenzone. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Convenient non-toxic option
Exactly what I was looking for. Non-toxic convenient option for sunblock. I keep one in my purse, our outdoor bag and in the car. Rubs in easy no weirdness. We are light complected so I'm not sure if it would leave white cast on a darker skin tone. I use it daily on my face, ears and hands.

Mineral sunscreen stick review - poor at blending
I’m writing a review for this product as well as a number of other mineral sunscreen sticks (MSS) after testing a bunch of them—scroll down to point #6 below if you want to know which one I thought was the best. I’ve placed this exact review on every single other MSS I used. I specifically elected to go with mineral-based sunscreens—lots of talk on the environmental effects of the other sunscreens (not sure how much of this is actually true, but I’m willing to avoid the non-mineral sunscreens given the minimal investment on my part). Here are a few important points about this review: 1. No one paid me to write this review. I put down my own $140 to get all 13 of these MSSs. I just wanted to find the best one by limiting as much bias as possible. Yes, my wife definitely gave me the you’re-crazy-but-I-guess-I’m-stuck-now look. 2. Quick sunscreen tutorial. Most dermatologists say we should try to get an SPF of 30+. Each 1% of zinc counts for 1.6 SPF, so to hit SPF 30, your zinc has to be 18.75%+. Each 1% of titanium counts for 2.6 SPF, so a combination of zinc and titanium could get you to SPF 30 as well. Titanium apparently isn’t good enough to block UV-A (cancer causing and photo-aging) light on its own, so you must add zinc to it. I calculated the SPF based on the stated zinc and titanium percentages on the label and these calculations were usually different from the quoted SPFs (they might be adding more SPFs from other ingredients, but I can’t say for sure). Nine of the 13 MSSs had calculated SPFs 30+. Only 4 of the 13 had a calculated SPF greater than or equal to the label SPF. 3. Because I can’t judge cancer prevention or aging blockade in the short term, avoiding burns and eye irritation are the most important immediately observable elements of an MSS. Every MSS I tested did equally well in burn avoidance and eye irritation avoidance. 4. It should be noted that I’m not Caucasian, I’m South Asian. If you don’t know what that is exactly, Wikipedia it or watch some Russell Peters standup comedy (his old stuff, not his new stuff). My skin color is probably similar to that of Benjamin Bratt (mind you, we’re talking about his skin color only… I’m not even in the same galaxy of overall looks as he is, much to my wife’s chagrin). The ability of a white-colored MSS to blend is crucial for me. And yes, even brown people like me need sunscreen. It would absolutely suck for me as a South Asian to have a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, skillfully dodge those bullets with diet and exercise and luck, only to get taken out by skin cancer. 5. I like most scents. It seems like so many things are going unscented now—an MSS that is truly unscented is okay, but a lot of things labeled “unscented,” actually have an odd, unpleasant (sort of like bad oatmeal) smell to them. The scent score is logged as a “3” if it’s truly unscented, a “5” if it has a great scent, and a “1” if it smells bad. 6. Here’s the final conclusion. Only 3 of the 13 MSSs I tested had the following combination of characteristics: calculated SPF 30+, smell score 3+, and blend score 4+. These top three were: Neutrogena Sheer Zinc, Aveeno Positively Mineral, and Blue Lizard. When you factor in cost, it’s a no-brainer—Neutrogena and Aveeno were only half the cost of Blue Lizard. Therefore, my two winners (tied for first place) are Neutrogena Sheer Zinc and Aveeno Positively Mineral. Honorable mention for Blue Lizard—twice as expensive as the others, but might be slightly easier to maneuver on your face given the smaller size stick (this is a stretch compliment for Blue Lizard—I think NSZ and APM are just better). Hope this helps you select your next mineral sunscreen stick! A^2
