Epipremnum aureum 'Neon' ('Neon Pothos', 'Golden Pothos')

Epipremnum aureum 'Neon' is a bright chartreuse pothos with glossy heart-shaped leaves and flexible vining stems. New leaves often emerge in a vivid yellow-green tone before settling into a clearer lime-green colour across the vine.

This cultivar has the same climbing aroid structure as Epipremnum aureum: nodes, aerial roots, and long stems that can trail from a pot or climb when given support. Indoors it usually keeps juvenile leaves, with an even, smooth leaf surface and solid chartreuse foliage.

As a selection of Epipremnum aureum, it belongs to a wet-tropical climbing species from Mo‘orea in the Society Islands, where aerial roots anchor the stems to humid forest surfaces.

Chartreuse pothos features

  • Solid chartreuse to lime-green foliage with glossy heart-shaped leaves.
  • Trailing or climbing vine growth from node-based stems.
  • Fresh yellow-green new leaves that mature to a brighter green tone.
  • Easy shaping through pruning and rooting stem cuttings.
  • Warmth and bright indirect light help reduce stretched growth on the vine.

Bright leaves on a self-clinging vine

'Neon' is an evergreen self-clinging climber, with slender stems that can lengthen strongly if left unpruned. The leaves are oval to heart-shaped at the base and stay glossy in indoor culture. When grown on a support, the aerial roots can attach and the plant may produce larger leaves as the stems mature.

Yellowing, dullness, stretched stems, or soft growth usually point to changes in moisture, light, temperature, or root health. Regular pruning keeps the vine fuller and prevents long bare sections from forming.

Care for clear lime-green growth

  • Light: Give bright indirect light to reduce stretched vine growth. Gentle morning or late-day sun may be tolerated after acclimation.
  • Water: Water when the upper 20–30% of the mix has dried. The plant grows strongly in warm months, but the roots still need air between waterings.
  • Substrate: Use a loose aroid mix with bark, perlite, coco chips, or pumice. Good drainage keeps the root system active and reduces soft-stem risk.
  • Temperature: Keep between 18–28 °C. Protect from cold draughts and cold wet windowsills in winter.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is usually fine. Higher humidity helps new leaves expand more smoothly on climbing stems.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth. Strong new vine extension responds better to regular low doses than occasional heavy feeding.
  • Pruning and propagation: Cut above a node to shape the vine. Root healthy stem cuttings in water or a light propagation mix before potting them on.

Colour, stem, and root checks

  • Dull or stretched growth: Move gradually into brighter indirect light and prune long sections to encourage fresh shoots.
  • Yellow leaves with wet soil: Check drainage, pot size, and root condition. Let the mix dry further before watering again.
  • Brown edges: Review watering gaps, dry heat, fertiliser concentration, and direct sun exposure.
  • Soft lower stems: Inspect the base and roots for rot. Remove affected sections and reroot healthy vine tips if needed.
  • Sticky residue or speckling: Check for scale, mealybugs, thrips, or mites along stems and leaf undersides.

Safety for this bright pothos

Epipremnum aureum 'Neon' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. It is toxic if chewed by pets and can irritate the mouth, lips, tongue, and throat, so keep leaves and cuttings out of reach.

Botanical name and cultivar name

Epipremnum comes from Greek roots meaning “upon” and “trunk.” Aureum means “golden,” referring to the yellow-gold markings of the classic plant.

Unfortunately another toy...
That doesn't stand up to the kind of dogs that need an interactive toy the most. Dog toy companies are missing the mark. Dogs that need the most entertainment are like our rescue boy in the video. Super smart, active, super chewers. They are the dogs that are abandoned, abused, and put to sleep the most. Why because they can destroy anything when board. The video and pictures say it all. I truly wish I could give less than a star. Value for the money 🤣😮‍💨😢

My dogs loved it, but it doesn't hold up.
My dogs absolutely love this ball! The moment I took it out of the package, they were already trying to play with it. The vibration is strong, and on hardwood floors it moves around fairly well. It keeps the dogs interested and does a good job of rolling around. The blue outer ring is made of a mildly tacky, hard rubber. Within about 30 seconds of rolling around, it had already picked up pet hair and lint from the floor. That said, the rubber feels fairly durable. I have some heavy chewers, so I'll update my review later to let everyone know how well it holds up over time. The charging process is a little unusual and somewhat concerning. To charge the ball, you have to remove it from the rubber shell, unscrew it, and pull out the motor assembly. While doing this, I got some kind of grease on my hand, so I would recommend being careful not to fully remove the motor when charging. It does use a USB-C charging port, and a small charging cable is included. Overall, my dogs are having a great time with it so far. I'll update this review if anything changes or if the ball doesn't hold up long-term. UPDATE: It is 2 days later, the rubber net around the ball has lost a lot of it's rigidity and no longer holds the inner ball in place. My dogs are able to easily remove the inner ball, which is hard and small enough for them to swallow. This toy has been taken away as much as they have loved it, as it's now a choking hazard. As a result, my rating has gone from 4 stars to 2.

Highly Entertaining Toy That Keeps Dogs Thrilled, But Smart Pups Can Disassemble It
This interactive ball is an absolute hit with my dogs, and watching them play with it has been incredibly entertaining. Right out of the box, the internal mechanism charged up very fast, so we were able to start a play session almost immediately. It blinks blue when charging and solid green when charged. The unpredictable moving and bouncing motions caught my dogs' attention right away, and they love chasing it around the room. My only critique is that it didn't take them very long to figure out how to pop the inner motorized ball completely out of the outer cage. Luckily, the materials are genuinely durable; even though they separated the pieces, they haven't destroyed or damaged either part yet. It's great fun to watch, but you'll definitely want to keep an eye on smart pups who figure out how to open it up.

Really cool cat toy for even the most picky cat!
Color: A1-Red, Color: A1-Red
I love it, wow. Our cat is picky with toys, but even he was intrigued by it. It really kept his attention, which is hard to do. It comes with three modes: fast, slow, and interactive. The only thing is that hair can get all trapped up in it because it's a wheel, so keep your house clean I guess lol. The tail also came off once, so you gotta snuggly get it on up there. Really cool cat toy though, I'm happy I got it lol

Not worth the money
Color: A1-Red
My small Chihuahua loved this toy. It kept him entertained until it would stop working. He only gets about 10 minutes of play and it's no longer charged to use. I even bought a second one thinking the first one might have been just bad luck, but nope, the same problem. It seems most of these interactive toys are only given 2 to 3 stars. I'm disappointed but more importantly, my pup is even more.
