Hylotelephium telephium syn. Sedum telephium. Orpine is a succulent herbaceous perennial with many other common names including Stonecrop, Live-forever, Frog Plant, Live-long, Witches' Moneybags, Aaron's Rod, Purse Plant and Pudding-bags! It is endemic from Asia to Europe and has been widely introduced elsewhere over the planet, particularly in North America.

Its fleshy leaves are a bluish green with hints of burgundy. Deep red stems grow up to around 3 feet tall. These are topped with clusters of starry, showy, pale-pink to crimson flowers from July to August, giving rise to an abundance of tiny seeds from August to September.

It is said the son of Hercules, Telephus, used the herb to cure a battle-wounded leg that was not healing, hence its’ Latin name.

Orpine plants will succeed in most soils, sandy, loamy or clay, and will tolerate poor soils, although they prefer ones that are either dry or moist and well drained. It is drought tolerant and hardy in Zones 5 to 9, thriving in dappled light to no shade.

The plants are typically found growing on rocky or stony ledges in the wild, hence “Stonecrop”, making them great for rock gardens and dry areas.

Propagation can be from root division or from seed sown in early spring through to early autumn. Orpine is an extremely forgiving plant to grow, earning the names “Live Long” and “Life Everlasting” due to the remarkable length of time it remains alive and fresh after being uprooted, subsisting on the nourishment stored in its fleshy leaves and swollen roots.

The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked, or boiled in milk, and the resulting decoction taken to stimulate the kidneys. It’s also useful in treating piles and diarrhea, and it has a growing reputation as an anti-cancer herb. A poultice of the crushed leaves has been used in the treatment of boils and carbuncles.

The roots can be cooked up in soups and stews, and the plant juice, mixed with vegetable oil, is used to heal burns.

On Midsummers Eve, the plant was gathered to determine the future of love relationships; 2 leaves were placed side-by-side and if they fell towards each other, love was true!

Good buy
Color: Turquoise
I was unsure about the color of the purse, but it is as pictured! Bright vibrant color, multiple compartments ( my favorite), good quality.

Not long lasting
Color: White, Color: White
I reaaalllly liked this purse (while it lasted). Bought in Dec 2024 & just broke today in May 2025. So I got 5 months out this purse, give or take. It’s definitely cute, had plenty of pockets, but will not hold up in the long run, especially if you tend to load your purse full of heavier items (which I do). The handle broke right off at the metal connection. Such a bummer; it’s completely unusable now unless I put on the long shoulder strap - which I do not like the look or feel of those kinds of purses so Oh Well.

Beautiful hand bag but space is quite limited
Color: Purple
Everyone that sees me with this purse tells me that they love it. I love the color and design however, the one thing that I dislike about it is that it's size doesn't work well for any person who carries more then a wallet and checkbook. By the time you get a pair of reading glasses in it with your cell phone space is at a premium. If you are doing any type of daily traveling and you have to put mediation in your purse, it's a tight squeeze. Personally, this should be called an "evening bag" because this doesn't provide enough room for daily use and I certainly wouldn't call it a tote.

The cool duffle bag
Color: Tan
great bag, plenty of room, good looking style and worth the money. It looks like an expensive bag and I get many comments on it. Where did you get that bag. And it looks great if you are dressed to go out or if you are dressed down.

Very nice purse!
Color: Grey
Very nice style, feel and love the color. Bigger than what I needed but certainly works for ladies who need and like larger purses.
