Calathea ‘Fusion Yellow’ is a striking variegated prayer plant known for its marbled yellow, lime and deep green foliage. A cultivar of Calathea lietzei (often still sold under its former botanical name), this variety offers bold painterly patterns with a contrasting purple underside.

Each leaf looks uniquely splashed and streaked, with bright yellow tones weaving through rich green sections. Like other Calatheas, it gently raises and lowers its leaves in response to light — earning the common name “prayer plant”.

While undeniably beautiful, ‘Fusion Yellow’ prefers stable conditions and consistent care.

Key Features

  • 🌿 Bright yellow and lime marbled variegation

  • 🌿 Deep green patterning

  • 🌿 Rich purple leaf undersides

  • 🌿 Prayer plant movement (nyctinasty)

  • 🌿 Compact, bushy growth

Care Guide

Light

Bright, indirect light is ideal.

  • East-facing windows are perfect

  • Avoid direct sunlight — can fade or scorch variegation

  • Too little light may dull colour and slow growth

Filtered light keeps foliage vibrant.

Watering

Calatheas prefer consistently moist soil.

  • Water when the top 2–3cm feels slightly dry

  • Do not allow the soil to fully dry out

  • Reduce watering slightly in winter

Tips:

  • Use room-temperature water

  • Rainwater or filtered water is best (sensitive to minerals)

  • Ensure good drainage

Overwatering or letting the plant sit in water can cause root rot.

Humidity

High humidity is essential.

  • Ideal range: 60–80%

  • Benefits greatly from a humidifier

  • Avoid placing near radiators or heaters

Low humidity commonly causes:

  • Brown, crispy edges

  • Curling leaves

Temperature

  • Ideal: 18–26°C

  • Avoid temperatures below 16°C

  • Protect from draughts and sudden temperature changes

Calatheas dislike cold stress.

Soil & Potting Mix

Use a moisture-retentive but well-draining mix:

  • Peat-free houseplant compost

  • Perlite

  • A small amount of coco coir

The soil should stay lightly moist but airy.

Feeding

Feed during spring and summer:

  • Balanced liquid fertiliser every 4 weeks

  • Dilute to half strength

  • Do not feed during winter dormancy

Overfeeding can cause leaf tip burn.

Growth Habit

  • Compact and bushy

  • Typically reaches 30–50cm tall

  • Produces new leaves from the centre

Leaves move slightly throughout the day in response to light.

Common Problems

Brown leaf edges

  • Low humidity or mineral-heavy water

Curling leaves

  • Underwatering or dry air

Yellowing leaves

  • Overwatering

Faded colour

  • Insufficient light

Calatheas are often described as “dramatic” — they respond quickly to environmental stress but recover well once conditions improve.

Styling Ideas

  • Perfect for brightening neutral interiors

  • Pairs beautifully with dark foliage plants

  • Ideal for plant cabinets or humid rooms

  • Looks stunning in white or stone-coloured pots

Toxicity

Calatheas are generally considered non-toxic to pets, making them a safer option for cat and dog owners.

Good Prints for Sublimation
Model: 500N STD, Model: 500N STD
After years of using converted printers for sublimation, I finally decided to go with the Sawgrass printer, which is specifically designed for sublimation. The printer turned out to be very nice! I’m particularly happy about the Sawgrass customer service they provide. Follow-up. I ordered the SG500 printer bundle from Amazon, but unfortunately, the prints had visible grid lines. I promptly reached out to Sawgrass customer service, and after a few emails, they figured out that the printer I received was faulty. It was all resolved within a few hours, which was way faster than I had expected. They immediately sent me a replacement machine and the prints are absolutely beautiful for my sublimation projects. Sawgrass customer service is truly amazing! Over the past three months, I have been using the Sawgrass printer and have identified a shortcoming that I would like to share in my review. While the prints produced by the Sawgrass printer are satisfactory, they fall short of the quality achieved with a printer I previously used for several years. This printer required a conversion to sublimation printing. I have sent a note to Sawgrass inquiring about potential solutions to this issue a couple of months ago, but I have not yet received a response. This suggests that the company may not have a viable remedy. You be the judge. I followed Sawgrass recommendations and used the Sawgrass Print Utility, but no matter what changes I make, the converted printer seems to produce prints much more to my liking. Both of the book markers shown were sublimated at the same time. In the future, when I have an order to complete, I will be opting to use the more affordable printer that I converted.

Sawgrass quality is excellent
Model: 500N STD, Model: 500N STD
I've been on the fence with Sawgrass, simply because cost can be an issue, but this past week I decided to put the new Sawgrass to the test against another of my printers which I converted for dye sublimation. I also own the Versiflex. I was on the fence with it initially as well, but I've been using it ALOT and I now have it down to an art. I've made shirts for friends and they were literally blown away at the quality of the print, so. . . yes, it is expensive and yes, you get what you pay for. So. . . I recently received the sublijet ink with my new Sawgrass since you cannot mix inks in a Sawgrass, not even to switch the type of ink for risk of damaging the machine. I'm seriously impressed. I made lanyards, T-shirts, bags and the quality is outstanding. I don't know if I'm going to retire my Epson, but the software to print using the Sawgrass print manager is pretty slick. Lots of options to fine tune your print quality. If you have the cash, buy it. If you don't save up. It's worth it. . . and this is coming from a skeptic.

Sawgrass is Always Innovating & Improving!
Model: 500N STD
I do own a versiflex and already have an expectation of quality and it did not let down. I’ve been running it for a few weeks and I’m honestly proud of what I’ve made. Mugs come out with deep blacks and smooth gradients, coasters are sharp edge to edge, and my poly tees keep their color after the first wash. Setup was fairly simple - drivers, print Manager, paper in, Wi-Fi paired first try. I barely tweak settings; reds, skin tones, and fine text land right without a lot of tinkering. No banding, no weird shifts, and the first print of the day is clean as it has an auto maintenance. For consistent, sellable results, it’s been worth it so far and I highly recommend it.

Amazing product!
Set name: Sublimation Printer, Set name: Sublimation Printer
All I can say is "WOW". I was skeptical about changing over from my Sawgrass to another brand of sublimation printers. But now I wish I started here from the start! Not only does this machine cost a good amount less with the same paper sizes and options as my SG500 but the ink is cheaper per cartridge and 11ml larger than the standard 30ml I am use to. Set up was super easy, as well as the connection. My prints are bold, bright, and beautiful. I am amazed! I am thankful that the details in the prints show through no matter what material I am pressing on. As a business owner, I need a good, efficient printer that doesn't cost more than the product I am selling. I can't wait to continue using my machine. I have not run into any maintenance issue and can not speak on anything of that as of now. Attached photos; however, my camera did not do it justice.
