Native habitat and growth pattern
Chamaedorea elegans is native to the rainforests of Southern Mexico and Guatemala, where it thrives as an understory plant in dappled light and humid conditions. In the wild, it can grow up to 6 feet tall, producing small yellow flowers and even black, berry-like fruit. Indoors, the Parlour Palm stays more compact, making it an elegant and manageable choice for UK homes.

Size
W14cm nursery pot x H45cm. Supplied in a plastic nursery pot.

Styling tips

  • Perfect for Art Deco, retro, or contemporary interiors

  • Its feathery fronds soften hard edges and add instant greenery to small spaces

  • Combine with metallic or natural seagrass planters for a high-society look

Chamaedorea elegans care guide

Light requirements:
Prefers bright, indirect light but tolerates low light, making it one of the most versatile indoor palms.

Watering:
Keep the soil slightly moist — water when the top 2–3cm feels dry, reducing in winter. Never allow the plant to sit in water.

Feeding:
Feed once a month during spring and summer. Our vegan, organic Original Plant Food is perfect for supporting strong, healthy foliage.

Humidity:
Enjoys higher humidity but adapts well to normal household conditions. Misting the leaves will help prevent dryness.

Pet safety:
Chamaedorea elegans is generally considered pet safe, making it a great choice for homes with cats or dogs.

Propagation:
Propagation is rare indoors, but mature plants may produce offsets that can be carefully separated.

Tough and lasts
Bought this toy Sept 2025. This has been my dogs favorite toy. It was hard when we bought it and he didn’t like it at first. Once he started playing with it, it became the toy of choice. It has softened a lot and loves it even more. First thing we greeted with in the morning is Dude with the yellow toy. I’m going to buy another to have if I think it gets too soft.

He loved it
Is it durable? Not at all. Did he love it? While it lasted. Our dog is a monster chewer with toys so I go into every purchase knowing we might get 8 hours out of a toy if we're lucky, depending on visible durability. We don't even buy stuffies anymore because it's just not smart. He loved the squeak while it lasted, it's large so we never have to worry about him choking on it while running/being dumb. If you have a dog that will eat pieces of things as they destroy toys, this is not the toy for them. Ours plucks it apart piece by piece, but leaves the bits near one of us (LUCKILY!). If he didn't, we'd never buy this again. The missing star is just for lack of durability. Even for a rubber toy it felt like it didn't last very long.

I highly recommend and my dog loves it
I have a 80 pound bulldog who destroys everything he gets his mouth on. He loves this toy. He has not been able to destroy it. Not even a bite mark. He has to have this with him at all times (including during zoomies). I highly recommend it

Reed review don’t really recommend
Did not last very long with my larger dog. And honesty it was destroyed in about 15 minutes completely, and when my dog was tearing it apart, the chunks were large enough for my dog to choke on, so I would highly recommend watching your dog with this toy if they decide to chew it and tear it apart, so they don’t choke so this could be a possibly dangerous toy.
