Pleiospilos Nelii 'Royal Flush' also goes by the name Split Rock. This succulent grows 3.2 inches tall. Belonging to the Aizoaceae family, the succulent offers a dormancy of winters and is egg-shaped. Split Rock is native to South Africa.

Growth Rate

Even though super easy to take care of, Purchase Pleiospilos Nelii 'Royal Flush' is both slow to grow and slow in size too.

Flowering

The deep rose-colored flowers with a white centre appear in early spring. They are daisy-like and open in mid-afternoon, closing just after sunset.

Watering and Feeding

Caring for split rock plants is easy. Water the plant only when the top layer of the soil has dried up. You can feed it with light fertilization but strictly during the active growing period only. Overwatering can lead to split rock plant rotting.

Soil

Any store-bought potting soil mix can work well for Split Rock. The addition of sand or other aeration-promoting additives will help it grow fast and with efficiency.

Hardiness

The succulent has been trained to survive outdoors with a hardiness zone of 9 to 10. However, be careful if the temperature drops below freezing since it has a frost tolerance of -1° C.

Light

From spring till autumn, the royal flush likes full sun and bright light for as long as possible. Due to its compact shape, the plant can do well if grown under a bright LED growth light.

Propagation

Use seeds or division to propagate in early spring, before the new growth starts. Do not divide clumps too often since the plant grows best when crowded.

This is one of the few succulents that do not have a fixed blooming season. Did you know that the plant can sometimes get confused and start flowering in Autumn instead of Spring?

I do think the cooling Purple grid works pretty well but at the same time, I could feel the grid under my pillow case. The pillow is very heavy.

It’s $30 to return and quickly STINKS from body heat

Original review about $30 return below, but since it cost to return I gave it to my husband. He’s a hot sleeper so other than this pillow we’ve switched to all cotton, linen or wool bedding and it’s made a huge difference. (Polyester is plastic so it reflects your heat back to you and makes you sweat more and doesn’t breathe.) I truly would not have kept this pillow except $30 felt like a waste just to return and he got excited about it. So okay, it’s his. Well I’m the laundry queen in our household (he does all dishes) and I realized very quickly this pillow would need to be washed OFTEN. Like, once a week is NOT enough. Something about body heat and this material smells HORRIBLE. Washing it is obviously not easy, so I handwash the outer layer of the pillow with a very gentle soap (bought for silk). And then it has to hang dry. It doesn’t matter. I can clean it perfectly, no smell remaining whatsoever, but after two nights, it’s so strong I can smell it JUST STANDING NEAR THE BED. Look. I mentioned my hubs sleeps hot, sure. But he’s hygienic. This should not be such an issue. It’s never been an issue with any other pillows. The smell doesn’t even smell like him or like B.O. or anything. It’s awful and legitimately churns my stomach. But can I throw out the stupid $200 thing? Noooo. Now he’s attached. And I’m spending hours of my life each week washing it to keep from feeling sick sleeping near it at night. And to avoid having wasted $200. Hate this thing. DON’T BUY THIS STUPID PILLOW. Dropping from 2 stars to 1 Because of the smell. Original review: I thought I could buy this and see if the height would work for me. It didn’t, and pinched my neck instead. But now the *only* way to return it is to ship through UPS (not return to the UPS Store or Kohl’s or Whole Foods, which would be free). I was going to return it and try a different size, but such a high price just to *try* it is not worth it to me. I’ve returned much larger (defective) items in the past without hassle or cost (like an entire heavy duty garage shelf with broken pieces). Had I known, I would not have ordered in the first place, so I hope this saves someone else. As for the pillow itself, it was unique, but I couldn’t even really lay my head on it for more than a moment until I had let it air out for more than a week. It REEKED upon arrival. My husband said it smelled like ozone, and my brother compared it to the inside of an airplane. It burned my throat if I tried to lay on it for more than about 30 seconds at a time. Two and a half weeks later, the smell is still slightly there. So even if it was comfy for me, I would not keep this pillow.
