Spider plant, Chlorophytum comosum, is one of the most common and well-known of all houseplants. It is especially popular with beginners, being easy to grow and propagate, tolerant of neglect, and able to thrive in nearly any type of condition. It gets its common name from the small plantlets produced on long trailing stems that vaguely resemble spiders.
This clump-forming, perennial, herbaceous plant, native to coastal areas of South Africa, has narrow, strap-shaped leaves arising from a central point. The leaves may be solid green or variegated with lengthwise stripes of white or yellow. The leaves are not flat but appear channeled or folded down the middle. Plants grows 12-15″ tall. The thick, fleshy roots and rhizomes evolved to store water, allowing it to survive inconsistent watering.

Spider plant produces small white flowers.

Long, wiry stems up to 2 feet long are produced, sometimes with a few small leaves, especially in response to short days and long, uninterrupted nights for at least three weeks, although they may appear at any time of year indoors. Small white, star-shaped flowers are produced at the ends of the stems. After flowering, more leaves are produced at the end of the stems, forming small plantlets. If a flower is pollinated, a leathery, 3-angled capsule-type fruit is produced that contains flat black seeds.

Spider plant helps clean indoor air.

Studies have shown that spider plant is quite effective in cleaning indoor air by absorbing chemicals including formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, and carbon monoxide in homes or offices.

Thick, fleshy roots allow spider plant to tolerate inconsistent watering.

Spider plant is very easy to grow indoors in medium to bright light throughout the year. It does well with average humidity and cool to average temperature, although it can tolerate warmer conditions. Use a general-purpose potting soil or soilless medium. Plants grow and produce plantlets best when slightly pot-bound. Because they grow quickly and the roots can easily become too crowded, they need frequent repotting to do their best.

Spider plant is well suited to hanging containers.

Allow the soil to dry slightly between thorough waterings. Fertilizing every 3-4 months is usually sufficient, or feed more frequently using half strength fertilizer solution. Be aware that heavily fertilized plants may not form as many plantlets and excessive fertilizer may lead to tip browning.
Spider plant generally has few pest problems other than scale insects and mealybugs. Tip burn of the leaves is a common problem that can have many causes. Low humidity, excessively dry soil, salt accumulation and/or chemicals, particularly fluoride or chlorine, in tap water or filtered water may cause brown leaf tips. Using distilled or rainwater will help prevent tip browning. Overwatering or planting in poorly drained soils can lead to root rot.

Spider plant can be grown as a ground cover outdoors in warmer climates.

This plant can also be grown outdoors as an annual in cool climates. It does well in most well-drained soils and should be bedded out after the last frost. Spider plant is a good addition to containers with its grass-like foliage that makes a nice contrast to other foliage types. It is quite well suited to a hanging basket, where the stems can hang down. Outdoors they need bright light but can sunburn if grown in full sun. In warmer climates, they make a nice ground cover in partly shaded areas in the garden.

Great for pregnancy (or regular use)
Style: SPF 50, Size: 4.05 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I searched far and wide for a safe mineral-based sunscreen for pregnancy. I settled on this one and I was not disappointed. It saved my skin from a lot of sunburn this summer! As other reviewers mentioned, it is harder to rub into the skin and can leave a whiteish tint, but that’s a small price to pay for a pregnancy-safe option.

Terrible, look like a ghost
Style: SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I love La Roche-Posay but unfortunately, I finally came across the first product I truly hate from them. This product is a complete white mask on your face and does not settle in at all. You’ll be walking around looking like a ghost all day and it gave me a mild irritation to my eyes.

Leaves white cast, works okay under makeup.
Style: SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
First time using this sunscreen. I have very sensitive skin and thought since my skin tolerates their cleansers and moisturizers surely it should tolerate the sunscreen. So far so good. It’s very calming on my skin (maybe because of the zinc), but it leaves a noticeable white cast especially if you have dark skin. I wear mine under makeup and have a separate sunscreen from another brand on days where I don’t want to wear makeup. The white cast actually acts as a blank base and helps my foundation to lay well. A tip I learned from makeup artists years ago. Sunscreens that leave a white cast cancels out your natural color and acts as a corrector, concealer and foundation to lay better and look more like skin. Think of it like painting on a blank canvas. The texture is not lotion like and is actually quite thick. make sure to moisturize well before apply this sunscreen. I’ll write an update if I notice any negative issues, but so far I’m content with it because of the purpose I'm using it for.

Safe for very sensitive skin
Style: SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: SPF 50, Size: 3 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
It is an excellent choice, especially if you have sensitive skin or want to avoid chemical filters. Minerals such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide act by forming a barrier that reflects UV rays instead of absorbing them.

Holy Grail Moisturizer for Rosacea
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-3.3 Fl Oz
In seeing so many negative reviews I felt compelled to weigh in as this is my favorite moisturizer. I have very dry, menopausal skin. Additionally, I have rosacea which seems to have been a nice gift from said menopause (you can only laugh, right?). It's very common for those of us in our 50's to have a compromised skin barrier and when an issue like rosacea is present, even more so. Because of all this my skin is very intolerant to most moisturizers and nearly all actives (over the last few years I've had to discontinue my retinols and chemical exfoliators). While ingredients like ALA's, petrolatum, mineral oil, parafin/bees wax, and lanolin are well tolerated and known to be quite soothing, they don't hydrate very well as they are more occlusive than moisturizing. Enter this product. Magically, it does both! It's marketed as a protective cream, which again implies occlusive, but it penetrates like no other. Gone is the tight, dry feeling that persisted even when I had a heavy layer of product on my skin (my previous moisturizer was Eucerin Original Healing Cream -- which still has its uses -- because it was the only thing I could put on my skin outside of squalane oil during a flare). Now, no topical can cure rosacea. However, the right product can calm the skin, repair the damaged lipid barrier, and improve its appearance. This moisturizer does just that and it's become my holy grail. Since starting this I've also added in the Cicalfate Serum which has only aided in repairing my skin. Another Avene product that works great for me is the XeraCalm Balm which helps with itching. I use all three of these daily and they've really helped fix the secondary issues that come with rosacea. As for the complaints about it being greasy or too heavy. I can see this not working for people with normal or oily skin (or perhaps only in moderation). But my skin loves the heavier weight and because one of the ways I soothe a flare is to keep a tiny mister bottle on hand and repeatedly spray my face so I have to guard against the drying effects of evaporation. These products are so lipid heavy that I can wet my face all day long without worrying about that, though I do reapply throughout the day. As for the watery consistency issue, I haven't had that problem but it does caution on the packaging not to expose the product to temperatures below 41 degrees F (5 C). I suspect that if it gets too cold either because of the weather or because of whatever warehouse it sat in during transit it will separate. Maybe open the package and before squeezing some out look to see if it has split and then shake it up/message the tube. So, if you have skin like mine don't hesitate to try this product. I'm leaving this absurdly long review for my struggling brothers and sisters out there with rosacea in hopes that it provides some relief! Happy moisturizing, internet strangers. ;)
