Dracaena angolensis (Sansevieria cylindrica) 'Fan'

Dracaena angolensis 'Fan' has thick cylindrical leaves arranged in a broad radial spread. The grey-green spears rise from the base and angle outward, creating a low, wide outline with the leaf shape visible from several sides.

As with the species, growth is rhizomatous, with new shoots appearing near the base as the plant settles into its pot. Over time, this can make the fan fuller and less symmetrical in a natural way.

Radial spears from a compact base

  • Grey-green cylindrical leaves held in a fan-like arrangement.
  • Thick foliage that stores water and keeps its shape for a long time.
  • Rhizomatous base with gradual offset growth.
  • Broad outline that pairs well with stable pots and bright indoor positions.

Growth from the centre outward

Dracaena angolensis comes from southern tropical Africa, where it grows in seasonally dry habitats. The fan-shaped plant still follows the species’ natural rhizome growth: older leaves remain sturdy while new shoots slowly add volume around the base.

The arrangement may become less symmetrical as the plant matures. That shift is normal. New leaves emerge according to the rhizome’s growth points, so the plant can gradually move from an even fan into a fuller cluster.

Care for a wider leaf spread

  • Light: Give bright indirect light so the leaves stay steady and the fan receives even exposure.
  • Watering: Let the substrate dry deeply, then water evenly around the pot and drain fully.
  • Substrate: Use a gritty mix with plenty of air space around the rhizome.
  • Pot stability: Choose enough weight at the base to support the outward leaf angle.
  • Temperature: Keep warm year-round and keep winter watering especially careful.
  • Repotting: Move up only slightly when the rhizome has filled the pot.

Checks for the fan arrangement

  • Soft central tissue: Water may be sitting too long around the leaf bases; check drainage and reduce frequency.
  • One-sided lean: Rotate the pot and move it closer to even light.
  • Dry brown tips: Old knocks, dry spells or handling marks can remain on the leaves.
  • Mealybugs: Inspect the tight spaces between the leaves where pests can hide.

Pet and child safety

Keep Dracaena angolensis 'Fan' out of reach of pets and small children who may chew the leaves. In cats and dogs, ingestion may cause digestive upset, and cut or damaged leaves can release sap that irritates sensitive skin.

Botanical name and leaf arrangement

Dracaena is derived from Greek drakaina, meaning female dragon. The species name angolensis refers to Angola, while the older Sansevieria cylindrica name describes the rounded cylindrical leaves.

Dracaena angolensis 'Fan' has a broad radial snake plant shape with dense grey-green spears.

Great shoe well made

Really good shoes at a fair price. My daughter loves the pink and purple gradient colors. Really beautiful. Shoes have proven themselves very durable. She's been wearing these a few times a week for the last couple months and they still look new aside from some dirt stains. Fit perfectly. Very comfortable. This is always her first pick in the morning when she's getting dressed. Good breathability you can wear these in hot summer weather without sweaty feet. Versatile shoe looks good enough to wear out and about or exercise in.
