Textile Origin Story:
This textile was created from a piece that was featured in the "Draw Me" show. There were nine pieces in the show and three in this series. My very first repeating design work was created from the three piece series as single edition prints and were included in the show. I took these very organic elements and made them into these quite elaborate symmetrical designs. As they originated from drawings by my own hand, there are variations from one side to the other. I love discovering these variations as I am working with them for textiles. In this piece I used bird skulls, feathers, leaves, and insect wings presenting them as a flower. The jaw bones referenced were gifted to me by a friend in New York City. They were presented to her as part of a traditional Italian lamb dish. I still have them. The original drawing is called "Peace to All Who Enter Here." I pinched the name from a piece done by an artist friend from my DC days.
