Yucca are remarkable plants grown for the architectural value of their bold, sword-shaped leaves and showy panicles of flowers held on stout upright stems high above the foliage. Make excellent feature plants in containers or a bold statement in the border. Do particularly well in seaside gardens with poor, sandy soil and in gravel gardens with the key to success being to keep the roots and trunk base as dry as possible in winter.

Yucca filifera is a north Mexican native and is one of the fastest growing Yuccas, hardy to -10C once established.  Younger plants will need frost protection.  Yucca filifera can grow to 8m tall in its native habitat though it is likely to be around half that size in the UK.  Forms a single, columnar trunk, branching only when it reaches 3-4m, with stiff, spiky leaves with peeling, thready edges arranged in a dense rosette.  Mature plants produce large, hanging panicles of cream flowers in summer.  A must for any Mediterranean, jungle or tropical themed garden and well suited to pots and containers.

Hardy Perennial (to -10C)

GROWING GUIDE

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of year.  Sow very thinly on the surface of a moist, free-draining, good seed compost (eg. John Innes) and just cover the seed with sieved compost. Seal in a polythene bag and propagate at 13-15C on a windowsill or greenhouse/coldframe. Germination should take place in 1-4 months and can be erratic, hence the need to sow thinly so that seedlings can be removed without disturbing the compost too much.

Growing Instructions: When the seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up individually into small pots (7-9cm) and grow on in well-ventilated, cooler conditions. Overwinter in a frost free place. When established, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out in late spring in a sunny position and well-drained soil. For the first few years and in very cold regions wrap in a fleece jacket in winter to protect from frost and make sure the roots and trunk are kept as dry as possible to prevent rotting.

Awesome!
I have tried so many ways of keeping my coffee beans fresh. This cannister is the winner! It is a very high quality container made of Borosilicate Glass which has provided me the protection I need in order to maintain freshness. I am happy, beyond description, with how well this works! The wide mouth allows easy access to the beans until the last is used. And when it is time to clean it, I can easily wipe it out as well as put it in the dishwasher since it is also dish washer safe. I will consider getting a second one for storing other items that I want to keep fresh as well as visible (like cookies, etc).

For serious coffee connoisseurs
I got this coffee canister because I know that my coffee connoisseur, son will be staying at our home for a few months this spring. He invests in very good quality coffee beans and grinds his portions as needed. I know that this glass vacuum type jar will do the trick in keeping the beans fresh so that the oils don't dry out. My husband and I use a flip top hinged canister for our more regular grind and the speed at which my husband drinks coffee means that it's usually quite fresh without the vacuum additional feature. I would caution that it took a hot minute to figure out how it work and wasn't easy to get open the first time outta the blocks. Read the instructions so you get familiar with home the air is extracted and how to release the pressure to open the canister.

Nice glass canister
Holds coffee airtight, keeping it fresher longer. It's see-through, so even guests know where to get the coffee. Good quality.

Not what I expected
For the price, I thought this was a real air release coffee jar. The kind you can use a vacuum sealer on that really gets out all of the air. This is one of the press pump types. For most, this would be efficient, but I make espresso and need the freshest beans. I roast myself and need them to maintain their freshness and this doesn’t quite do it for me.

Thin glass but good container
My biggest worry with this container is that it is such thin glass. I fear if I were to hit it the wrong way or it even fell a foot it would shatter. The seal is very good though and holds my coffee beans. It is easy to open and seal. I have no issues with it and it does what it is intended for other than it being a bit thin.
