Anthurium recavum

Short internodes, persistent intact cataphylls, terete petioles and narrow sagittate blades give Anthurium recavum a clear Colombian aroid profile. Native to Colombia, this species grows as a subshrub or epiphyte in wet tropical conditions.

The blades are defined by long-running basal veins and fine raised tertiary venation. Indoors, the plant needs a breathable aroid mix, stable humidity and careful crown placement so the stem base stays open above the substrate.

Narrow-bladed Colombian traits

  • Origin: Native to Colombia, with wet tropical habitat tied to the species.
  • Growth habit: Subshrub or epiphyte, with short internodes and roots forming close to the stem base.
  • Leaf shape: Narrow sagittate blades give the plant a long, tapering leaf outline.
  • Venation: Basal veins run far along the blade, with fine raised tertiary veins adding surface definition.
  • Petioles: Terete petioles hold the blades away from the crown.
  • Cataphylls: Persistent intact cataphylls remain around older growth points.
  • Root zone: Coarse bark, fibre and mineral aggregate keep moisture moving around active roots.

Stem base and pot behaviour

Anthurium recavum grows from a compact stem with short internodes, so crown height matters in a pot. Keep the stem base just above the substrate surface and allow fresh roots to enter a loose mix instead of pressing the crown into fine, wet material.

A breathable container and a chunky substrate give the roots contact with moisture while keeping air between the particles. Let the top layer begin to dry lightly before watering again, while keeping the deeper mix evenly moist and fresh.

Indoor care for Anthurium recavum

  • Light: Place it in bright filtered light; harsh direct sun can scorch young leaves.
  • Water: Water when the upper layer has started to dry, then let excess water drain fully.
  • Substrate: Use a chunky aroid mix with bark, coarse coco fibre, perlite, pumice or similar mineral aggregate.
  • Humidity: Keep humidity elevated while new blades expand, especially around the developing venation.
  • Temperature: Warm, even conditions keep root activity steady; cold wet substrate can damage roots quickly.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth and flush the mix occasionally if mineral salts collect near the pot edge.
  • Potting: Repot into a slightly larger container once roots fill the mix, keeping the stem base visible above the substrate.

Watch points for Anthurium recavum

  • Soft stem base: The crown is sitting too deep, or the mix is staying wet around the short internodes.
  • Brown leaf edges: Dry air, irregular watering or warm air movement may be stressing expanding blades.
  • Long, stretched growth: Light levels are too low for compact stem development.
  • Yellowing with damp substrate: Check the roots and move the plant into a more open mix if the root zone smells sour.
  • Weak new roots: Old compacted substrate can block air around the stem base and slow fresh root growth.

Safety for Anthurium recavum

Anthurium recavum contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Keep it away from pets and children that may chew leaves or stems, and wash hands after handling sap or damaged tissue.

Botanical notes for Anthurium recavum

Anthurium recavum Croat is a Colombian species in Araceae. It was described by Thomas B. Croat and published in Willdenowia in 2010.

With its narrow sagittate leaves, compact stem base and persistent cataphylls, Anthurium recavum needs a warm, humid setup built around root aeration.

Great conclusion to this series!
Format: Paperback
Margot is sure that long-term relationships just aren't for her. Been there. Blew through the tissue box. Wrote the novel. Done that. All her friends found their life mate, and that makes social gatherings a bit awkward now, but it's fine, really. Even the wedding planning she's invited along to with her friends, that's cool. Well, it was, until Olivia, her long lost childhood friend, happens to be a wedding planner they run into. Margot and Olivia's first relationship didn't go so well, and Olivia has since been married and divorced. Margot thinks Olivia is still as much a beautiful goddess as ever, and opportunity knocks when Olivia is stranded with nowhere to go. Margot is happy to offer up a spare room, but even though she and Olivia are getting along swimmingly, and sparks are flying between them, is Olivia what she really wants? When their first voyage into the unknown was capsized, are they fated to be lost at sea once more, or will the stars guide them to a brighter future than they could ever have hoped for? I've followed the stars all the way to the end of the Written in the Stars trilogy, and what have I found? A trio of excellent stories about love, friendship, hardship, communication, and the self. Margot and Olivia make a fun and interesting second chance pairing, with Margot being the prickly pear, and Olivia being really sweet. Margot is rough around the edges partially because she has a difficult time trusting, which I understand, and that along with other factors compounds into miscommunication along the way. While this story can be read as a standalone, I think that readers who've partaken of the first two entries will have plenty to enjoy, with Brendon, Elle, and other favorites returning for their part in Margot and Olivia's story. Margot and Olivia have the opportunity for a second chance, but giving somebody you used to love a second chance is difficult, no? Margot asks a lot of Olivia, and I understand why, but in the end, love is all about taking that uncertain leap in hopes of landing together on your feet. Their intimate scenes are rather spicy, so don't expect anything closed door about their romance. Count Your Lucky Stars is the story of two girls who fell out of love doing their best to find each other again, and I'm counting my own lucky stars for having the pleasure of enjoying this story and these characters across an entire trilogy. Recommended for readers who believe in second chances, enjoy romance between disparate personalities, enjoy sapphic romance, and fans of this friend group's previous two stories, which I also recommend.

Queer Holiday Romance
Format: Paperback
Thank you, Netgalley and Pengiun Books for an arc of I'll Get Back To You by Becca Grischow. This book is a cozy and heartfelt queer holiday romance that captures the messy beauty of growing up and falling in love. Set around Thanksgiving, the story follows Murphy, a struggling college student, and Ellie, her unexpectedly queer former classmate, as they fake a relationship for a weekend that turns into something more. With authentic characters and a Midwest setting, the novel blends humor, vulnerability, and sapphic charm, making it a refreshing and relatable read for anyone who loves queer stories with emotional depth and seasonal warmth

A FUN BOOK TO READ
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was full of fun dialog and jokes. It made me laugh, just rolling with laughter. It was interesting to learn about that area of the country, especially the Cubs aspect. A pleasant surprise was that one of the MCs was a Jew. I liked feeling the connection because there aren't that many in the books I've read. The Thanksgiving dressing made with challah was a nice touch. I tried finding more books by this author but didn't have any success. I wonder if this is her first. I will read more if I find them.
