San Pedro Cactus is a fast-growing columnar cactus native to the Peruvian Andes. It's easy to grow and the cluster of tall, slender branches is especially handsome. When conditions are right (usually just after a rainfall), it produces huge fragrant white blossoms at night worth staying awake for.

Native to the Andes, San Pedro tolerates lower temperatures and more rainfall than most cacti. It needs free-draining soil, an occasional deep watering, and some protection from scorching sun in mid-summer. It grows fastest in sunny climates with long summers, is hardy anywhere in zones 8-10.

This is not a very prickly cactus. It has short spines and is safe to plant near a walkway (but maybe not a swimming pool.) Slender and very erect, it makes a handsome statement in most gardens and grows just fine in a pot.

*****

these seeds are open pollinated on my brothers property south of Tucson, Arizona. The next living thing to him is a saguaro cactus a little over 5 miles away.

I start these seeds in a 6 inch pot, with a cactus soil that contains a mix of perlite, sand, and vermiculite.  Water your soil mix, allow to drain.  Tamp the soil, surface sow seeds and cover with a light layer of starting mix.
Cover pot with plastic wrap and a rubber band to keep in heat and moisture.  Place in a warm area, but not in direct sunlight.  Use a spray bottle to keep soil moist but not soaking wet.  (Spray bottle keeps the seeds from being dislodged and being buried too deeply to germinate.)
Remove plastic wrap when you have seedlings.

Total waste of money
I wouldnt give it one star but had to to leave a review. Just got these balls September 8, 2025. As of today we are on our third ball, September 13. My dog only used in field for fetch. He never layed down and chewed on it. The inside of the balls came apart. I pulled off felt to show where. The ball is otherwise intact. Never had this happen to any ball I ever bought. I researched and looked for good reviews even off Amazon because my dog is a border collie and loves to fetch. This is a huge waste of of money and bad for environment

Does the job
I do like that they come in bulk and that they weren’t too expensive but I definitely don’t think the quality is that high and they’re very easily falling apart but that’s probably because they are cheap. if you have a dog that is a they will get it into little pieces very soon after they have it. So I’ve had to put them up when we are done.

Not durable
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I'm giving it 2 stars because these balls are not durable. They also don't bounce well. My dog cracks the seam easily. I will use them, but won't be purchasing again.

Falls apart within minutes!
I’m a real human and person (sad I have to say that) who bought these stupid balls for my dog because tennis balls are EXPENSIVE. She chewed on them only a few times and the balls split in half into two hemispheres right away. Plus, she could rip the felt off the entire ball in less than an hour. Absolutely terrible and I truly threw money away because I threw away the original packaging and so I can’t get my money back! Very disappointing and sad :-(. Turns out that Play Again sports sells used tennis balls for $0.35 each. Sorry, Amazon. I’m getting my tennis balls from them from now on 😠
