SUN

The Monstera Deliciosa prefers medium to bright, indirect light. Sunlight filtered through blinds or curtains at East and South-facing windows is ideal. Keep out of direct light and rotate regularly for even growth.

WATER

Water generously once the top 50%-75% of soil has dried, allowing a brief period of drought in between. Water should drain out each time before being discarded. Reduce frequency during fall and winter. Non-tap water is recommended.

AIR

Mimic a tropical environment with temperatures between 65º-80º and a high moisture content. Provide a regular boost of humidity by:

  • Misting the leaves 3-4x per week with non-tap water
  • Adding a humidifier nearby
  • Creating a pebble tray that lives underneath the pot
  • Placement in a bathroom or kitchen, if lighting is suitable

PET FRIENDLY

Keep out of reach from curious pets. These are toxic when ingested

AESTHETIC

Monsteras are a distinct plant originating from Southern Mexico, Panama, and surrounding tropical areas. The Monstera Deliciosa grows large leaves that develop holes (known as fenestrations) as it matures. Under their native habitat of the rainforest canopy, these holes allow sunlight to reach lower leaves. They’re able to climb vertically using aerial roots. Indoors, these require a support system, such as a coco coir pole, to properly climb and can ascend 15 feet in height.

HEALTH BENEFITS

Active exposure to and care for plants has many proven wellbeing benefits, such as:

  • Lower stress levels
  • Improved mood
  • Superior mental clarity and focus

Monsteras benefit our physical health by absorbing toxins commonly found indoors, like benzene, formaldehyde, and toluene. Their humidifying capabilities will also help you sleep and breathe better. Keep their leaves free of dust for optimal photosynthesis, oxygen, and shine.

SPIRITUAL INTERPRETATIONS

Monsteras symbolize honor, and respect for long life, manifested by their own longevity. Place them in your home as a reminder to live a healthy, joyous life or gift them to a beloved family member to show them your love + appreciation.

OUR RECS

We recommend a ceramic planter with plenty of drainage to provide ideal moisture balance for your Monstera. When repotting, keep it in a planter of the same size or no more than 2 inches larger.

A well-draining soil with amendments such as coco coir and/or perlite will provide a healthy balance of moisture retention, aeration, and drainage.

Nature is unique - each plant may vary slightly from the plant shown here. Ceramic planters are sold separately.

Another Thought Provoking Book
Format: Kindle
Having read Professor Taylor's American Republics I greatly anticipated this volume in his series. The examination of both the Canadian and Mexican stories in this book along with the American Civil War helps provide context to the traditional narrative. I find his approach useful as it shows how the interactions between the US and its neighboring nations evolved. I'm hoping he continues the series

A Minority View of our History
Format: Kindle
If you want to learn more about American history from the perspective of minorities, this is a crowning achievement. It is long so I focused on reading the chapters on the US and it gave me an understanding of just how brutal the challenges were but how significant the slow process of building our multicultural society was as well.

Eye opening!
Format: Hardcover
I've read tons of books and biographies connected to American history, perhaps because I'm the son of immigrants, but have never read a survey like this one. By describing in luscious and sometimes horrific detail the wars being fought in Mexico and the main Canadian provinces alongside our Civil War, we get patterns, intersections, and insights that simply would not be available reading about any one struggle. I love this book which is teeming with wonderful portraits and dramatic scenes.

A worthy and worthwhile fourth volume in the series
Format: Kindle
Once again, Taylor frames a critical period of the past in terms of the continent of North America and ties the US Civil War to the one occurring concurrently in Mexico and Canada's move toward Dominion. All thoughtfully told and expertly researched.

Good History Book
Format: Kindle
Twenty years that change history and the Americas. Even though the civil war ended slavery at a humongous cost, it it failed to bring social justice a d civil rights to the population of the country. It was not until 1920 that women were granted voting rights. And some problems and divisions persist nowdays.
