Summary

Asparagus fern adds soft, airy texture to your space with feathery green growth that spills and mounds beautifully in containers.

Despite its common name, this plant isn’t a true fern—it’s a close relative of edible asparagus, valued for its lush, evergreen appearance and easygoing nature. Long, arching stems fill out quickly and can trail over the edges of pots, making it a great choice for hanging baskets, mixed patio containers, and bright indoor rooms.

In warm climates, it can also be grown outdoors as a tropical groundcover, where its spreading habit creates a full, layered look in partial shade.

Care

Asparagus Fern Care

Provide bright, indirect light for best growth and color. It also performs well in partial shade outdoors, especially where it is protected from intense afternoon sun.

Water when the top portion of soil begins to dry, keeping soil evenly moist but not saturated. Good drainage is essential, especially in containers.

Feed during active growth with a slow release fertilizer in spring and summer.

Trim back stems as needed to control size and encourage fresh, dense growth.

Container Growing

This plant is commonly grown in containers and hanging baskets. Use a well-draining potting mix and a container with drainage holes.

Container-grown plants may require more frequent watering during warm months.

Plants hardy in the ground may require winter protection when grown in containers in colder zones.

Not like egg-crate foam, but these look nice and help with noise
Everyone is putting these on the walls. I opted for the ceiling. Back in the middle of the pandemic, I converted a corner of a back-room/work-room into a home office space for my work-from home activities. It's a basement, and so it's concrete walls, but I did my best to put things on or in front of the concrete to dampen sound. But I didn't spend any time thinking about the open-rafter ceiling, which is really just the main-level floor. That's where these (and a couple other) sound-reducing tiles came in. I tacked some packs of these overhead, and immediately noticed a fair reduction in noise in my "office," as well as noise from upstairs. But they also had the effect of reducing my ceiling height, making it easier to warm the space when it's cold. And they look good doing it, providing a pretty nice ceiling. These tiles are not very thick, not like true acoustic wall materials. So you're not going to get the sound dampening of egg-crate foam. But they do offer some degree of reduction in ambient noises. And they don't cost a lot. Overall, I'm pleased and think I need to order more for some other areas of the room.

A Little Thin
These were a little thinner than I expected, but they work well to help dampen the sound in hard rooms. The larger size means less time installing them and more time enjoying the benefits of a softer room.

Noticeable Echo Reduction in My Shop
I installed these panels in a shop where sound tends to bounce around quite a bit. The panels were easy to cut to fit the wall and lightweight enough to mount with double-sided tape. The material feels dense and well-made, and I immediately noticed a difference in echo reduction. These helped dampen ambient noise without changing the look of the room too much. They don’t block out sound completely, but they definitely make a noticeable improvement in room acoustics.

Great Balance Between Aesthetics And Performance
These acoustic panels, made from high-density polyester fiber, are well-crafted and provide effective sound absorption without the bulk of traditional foam panels, helping maintain a clean and modern look on the wall. Installation is simple—just peel off the adhesive backing and press them into place. For added durability, I reinforced a few panels with small nails. They’re easy to trim with scissors, making it simple to fit around outlets or customize a unique layout. At only 0.4 inches thick, they stay low-profile on the wall while still offering solid acoustic dampening for their size. While they don’t deliver full soundproofing, the improvement in room acoustics is noticeable—voices sound clearer on calls, and there’s less echo overall. The neutral gray color blends in nicely with most decor, and the textured surface adds a touch of visual interest.
