Minimum: 20+ Seeds

Wild Fruit. Fierce Flavor. A Native Powerhouse for Your Edible Landscape.

Bring back a classic of the North American wild, Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana), a rugged, fruit-bearing shrub that’s as beautiful as it is useful. Whether you're a home gardener looking to attract pollinators, a chef after bold native flavor, or a seed collector seeking regional resilience, this native is a must-have. Hardy, productive, and wildly underrated, chokecherry is the kind of plant that rewards patience with abundance.

These cold-hardy, open-pollinated seeds grow into tough, adaptable shrubs reaching 10 to 20 feet tall. In spring, long clusters of fragrant white blossoms light up the branches, feeding bees and beneficial insects. By late summer, deep red to black berries hang in heavy clusters, tart, tannic, and packed with flavor that mellows when cooked. It’s a fruit that tells a story: wild, honest, and deeply rooted in the land.

Culinary Uses:
Despite the name, chokecherries shine in the kitchen. Their astringency fades beautifully in cooked preparations, think old-school jellies, syrups, wine, vinegar, and barbecue sauces. Indigenous peoples across North America used chokecherries in pemmican, teas, and medicinal preparations. The flavor is complex and rich, like a wild cousin of the cherry and cranberry.

Permaculture & Wildlife Benefits:
A dream plant for food forests and hedgerows, chokecherry is a magnet for birds, butterflies, and bees. Its dense form makes it useful as a living fence or privacy screen, and it helps stabilize soil on sloped or degraded land. The bark and fruit have traditional uses in herbal medicine as well, valued for respiratory and digestive support.

How to Grow Chokecherry from Seed:
Growing chokecherry from seed is rewarding, but it does require some patience.

  • Cold Stratification Required: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours, then place in moist sand or peat in the fridge (or buried in outdoor soil) for 90–120 days before planting.

  • Sow in Spring: After stratification, plant ½ inch deep in well-draining soil with full sun to part shade.

  • Spacing: 6 to 10 feet apart if planting for hedgerows or edible landscaping.

  • Watering: Once established, chokecherry is drought-tolerant but appreciates regular water in the first season.

  • Zones: Hardy in USDA zones 2 through 7, thriving in both wild and cultivated gardens.

  • Harvest Tips: Berries ripen in mid to late summer. Wait until they turn deep reddish-black and taste test for ripeness. Always cook before eating.

Why You’ll Love It:
This is a fruit-bearing native shrub that fights for its place. It thrives where others fail. It feeds wildlife and your pantry. It tells a story of landscape and heritage. And it asks for very little in return.

Plant now to reclaim the flavor of the forest and grow a piece of North America’s edible legacy. These open-pollinated chokecherry seeds are a limited-availability pick for serious growers and heritage enthusiasts, grab yours before the season turns.

Fabulously bizarre and effective
These silicone socks have to be the strangest item I have ever ordered from Amazon. However strange they are, I was pleasantly surprised with them. My order came with two pairs, and I took one pair out to wash before use. I laughed at handling them then because they were a cross between hospital socks and leftover mannequin skin…trippy. The socks dried fast, so I put on foot lotion and put the socks on. The socks are beige skin tones that cover the entire foot up to the ankle, basically booties. The silicone is very soft and makes putting on and taking off the socks easy. They are also surprisingly easy to walk around in because the bottoms have grips, again, like hospital socks. I walked on tile, hardwood, and carpet with no slipping. The booties also stayed in place with no issues. I was concerned my feet would sweat, but that didn't happen. I was able to wear them for 3 hours without sweaty feet. When I took them off, my feet were a lot more soft than before or if I had used regular socks. For reference, my feet are not terrible, but the skin around my toes is dry and peeling from my picking(gross, I know). The socks I got are a size large, which worried me because they are big, but the site said for my shoe size (9) that's what I should order, and they were right. They are the perfect size and stretchy for room. I can't believe how cool and well-thought-out these socks are, on top of working. Honestly, these are among the top 20 favorite items I've ordered from Amazon. They may look incredibly strange, and they are, but they work wonders.

THE DOG TREATS SO GOOD EVEN PHOEBE KNOWS THEY ARE FROM A WINNER
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 6)
These Wonder Bound pig ears are absolutely INCREDIBLE. Truly one of the greatest dog treats ever created. People come up to me and they say, Sir, my dog has NEVER reacted to anything like this. And I tell them, of course not. These are REAL pig ears. Not the fake tiny pieces you get from weak companies. These are STRONG ears. Beautiful ears. Now I do not personally eat pig ears. Everybody knows this. I have a tremendous diet. Very refined. But DOGS, they understand things on a deeper level. Dogs know QUALITY. Dogs know WINNERS. Some people don’t, but dogs do. And Phoebe. Very smart dog. People tell me she is one of the smartest. Incredible instincts. She saw this bag and immediately knew it was the BEST. Not good. Not great. The BEST. She did the excited thing dogs do. Very respectful. Very appreciative. Some say she even endorsed it. I’m not saying that. But many are. She took the ear and ran like she had just made the greatest deal of her life. Tremendous speed. Very athletic dog. Very loyal. And she chewed it with POWER. You could see it in her eyes. She was thinking, This is from a winner. Dogs sense that. They really do. The size is perfect. Not small. Not flimsy. A whole ear. The kind of treat a DOG OF DISTINCTION deserves. It keeps them busy, focused, and happy. Very important qualities. And let me tell you, Phoebe looked extremely satisfied. People saw it. They said, Sir, that is a dog who knows success. Five stars. Would buy again. If I were a dog, which I am not, I would ONLY eat these. They are THAT good. Just ask Phoebe. She knows.

Jake the Chocolate Lab Can't Tell You- But He Liked Them.
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 6)
I suppose that I should give you the details of my experience with the product. They came in a quality, resealing bag. I actually ordered this item from the Amazon page. I got them for my parents' dog Jake- a three year old chocolate lab. I hid one in my hoodie pocket and he began zeroing in on that area after a few seconds, wondering what was in my pocket. It may just be me, but if you aren't familiar with pig ears- they don't stink or anything like that. Yes, they are actual pig ears. But they contain pork and are a decent snack for dogs every now and then. In retail we would always sell out of pig ears. I took the pig ear out of my pocket. Jake took it in his mouth and proceeded over to his bed area where he licked the pig ear for about a minute, probably because it is salty. I don't wish to find out. He then carefully munched down on it and took a short drink of water. He then proceeded to run over and tackle me (as he is wont to do). Oddly, his breath did not stink. I bought these as an alternative to rawhide. Two decades ago I got my parents to stop buying rawhide (about as gross as beef 'pizzle' and instead buy pig ears and deer antler chews. He seems to like them, and if they aren't causing an issue I don't see why Jake can't have one every now and then, especially when he behaves.
