Euphorbia tirucalli 'Firesticks', more casually referred to as Firesticks or the Pencil Cactus, is a fascinating succulent shrub that's often hailed for its vibrant orange-red stems, giving it an almost flame-like appearance in the sunlight. Hailing originally from Africa, this distinctive plant has found its niche in desert gardens globally, especially adored in the Aussie landscape for its vivacity during the cooler months, where its fiery hues glow almost luminously.

Despite its hardiness, this unique plant does require some caution due to its sap, which is highly toxic if ingested and can cause skin or eye irritation. Thus, it's advisable to place it in areas where children or pets are unlikely to come into contact with it, or away from pathways where it could be accidentally brushed. So while its upkeep is practically zero, always remember to wear gloves and eye protection when pruning, as a single brush against its sap can cause discomfort.

Standing tall at up to 2.4 metres, when fully mature and grown in the ground,  'Firesticks' is well-suited to a variety of applications. Its slender, cylindrical stems, akin to pencils or sticks, make it a captivating addition to a xeriscape garden or as a windbreak or screening plant on expansive properties.

When grown in a container, however, this vibrant plant can be maintained at a smaller size, making it perfectly adaptable to more compact spaces. Its striking silhouette and bold colour palette also make it a popular choice as a potted specimen, gracing balconies and patio spaces with its fiery presence.

'Euphorbia tirucalli 'Firesticks'' thrives best under direct sunlight and is not fussy about the soil type, as long as it is well-draining. Overwatering or waterlogged conditions are to be avoided, but once established, this hardy plant can survive on natural rainfall alone. Regular pruning isn't necessary, but feel free to trim outliers or cut back hard to keep its size manageable.

This fiery shrub has a unique charm that goes beyond its stunning colours. Euphorbia tirucalli 'Firesticks' can reach up to 7 metres in height and is composed of fleshy stems often arranged in whirls. The leaves, which are small and oval, typically fall off early, leaving the stems to take the spotlight.

An intriguing aspect of this plant's history is its use in traditional medicine across different cultures. Despite its sap's toxicity, some cultures have tried to use it to treat various ailments, from coughs and earaches to warts and tumours. However, caution is advised, as current research suggests that it may suppress the immune system and even promote certain types of cancers.

In a nutshell, 'Euphorbia tirucalli 'Firesticks'' is a remarkable succulent that makes a bold statement with its fiery hue and unique form. While its use demands care and awareness of its potential toxicity, its maintenance is relatively low and its aesthetic rewards are undeniably high. This plant is a perfect fit for anyone looking to add a splash of drama and colour to their garden or home.

Fantastic product... fantastic fit !
Size: X-Large, Color: Black
First off, China got this product from their country to ours, then to my hometown.... faster than my own post office could get it across town after much bickering. So... thank you to the Chinese. Complaints about America being better... then start doing better. Secondly the coat was far superior than I even suspected. It fit well and I cannot wait until cooler weather to break it out ! Again... thank you China ! Highly recommend this product.

Once You Try Them, You'll Buy More!
Size: 46W x 36L, Color: Stonewashed
I'm tall (6'3"), and when I was young, I used to be thin as a rail (though decades of three squares a day has changed that). So finding jeans that fit well has always been challenging. A long inseam (36") made purchasing jeans at retail stores an exercise in futility. So for many years, I bought my jeans from cataloger Eddie Bauer. Oh sure, I would try other mail order firms from time to time, but never found a pair of jeans that fit comfortably. I'm no longer young (Daddy was feeling his oats when Ike was in the White House) and much of the vanity that plagued me in my youth has dissipated. Be forewarned as you continue reading, that comfort, not appearance, now tempers all my purchasing decisions. It was time to purchase a couple pairs of jeans, and because Eddie is getting awful pricey, I decided to see what was being offered here on Amazon. The price was right, and the reviews were good, so I ordered a pair of these "just to see". Boy, I'm I glad I did!! These jeans are designed for guys who want comfort over a full range of movement. First, the material; although the description says "flex denim", it is not "stretchy" (remember double-knit?). I think they may be referring to the fact that the material is a bit lighter weight than your average jeans, thus avoiding much of the stiffness. The material reminds me very much of some painter's pants I owned years ago; soft and very pliable. Now for the fit; generously cut (though not baggy) in the seat and crotch. No binding of your manhood when you sit or squat! Plenty of room in the legs too. The waste is cut high enough so your belt sits comfortably above your hips, avoiding the embarrassment of plumber's crack when you're on your hands and knees, bent over without your glasses, looking for that damned little screw you dropped. Finally, the inseam length is also generous. When you're sitting with your legs crossed, these pants won't be jacked half-way up your calf. So, in conclusion, if you're trying to make a fashion statement with hip-hugging, tight-legged, twig & berry squeezing pants, you will be sorely disappointed with these jeans. But, if you're a working man, looking for a well-fitting, comfortable pair of britches, I'll bet you a fresh tin of Shinola and a Moon Pie, that you will appreciate slipping into a pair of these jeans!! I just ordered two more pair!!

Comfortable but Baggy Legs
Size: 42W x 36L, Color: Stonewashed
My husband thinks the jeans are comfortable. However, the thigh portions are sort of baggy looking on him compared to other straight leg stretch jeans by other companies such as Levi and Lee. At least I think these are straight legs. It did not say, "relaxed Fit" in the ad anyhow. They are always more baggy. Otherwise, the jeans are fine.
