Paeonia suffruticosa, commonly known as the Tree Peony, is a striking deciduous shrub native to China, renowned for its large, extravagant blooms and lush foliage. This perennial plant can grow to a height of 1 to 2 meters and features woody stems that provide a sturdy structure for its heavy flowers. The leaves are deeply lobed and dark green, giving the plant a dense, bushy appearance. From late spring to early summer, Paeonia suffruticosa produces stunning flowers that can reach up to 20 cm in diameter, featuring a range of colors from delicate pastels to vibrant hues of pink, red, and white, often with a contrasting center. These blossoms are fragrant and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The Tree Peony thrives in well-drained, fertile soil and prefers full sun to partial shade, making it a popular choice for ornamental gardens and landscapes. It is highly valued not only for its beauty but also for its long lifespan and resilience, often living for decades when cared for properly. Zones 4-8

Germination

To germinate Paeonia suffruticosa seeds, follow these steps for optimal results. Begin by collecting ripe seeds from mature pods in late summer or early fall. Since peony seeds require cold stratification to break dormancy, you should soak them in water for 24 hours before planting. After soaking, place the seeds in a moist medium, such as peat moss or sand, and refrigerate them for about 12 to 16 weeks at around 4°C (39°F). This mimics the natural winter conditions they would experience in the wild. After the stratification period, sow the seeds in a well-draining seed mix, planting them about 1-2 cm deep. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and maintain a temperature between 20-25°C (68-77°F) for optimal germination. Germination may take several weeks to a few months, so patience is key. Once seedlings emerge and develop a few true leaves, they can be transplanted into individual pots or directly into the garden in a location with full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil.

Small
They were smaller then I thought they would be the size for a small dog or puppy. My dogs thought they were great.

The best small dog chew stick ever
I've bought these several times and given them out to friends. These last a lot longer than the rawhide chews. Our poodles love them; over the past year, they are the go-to toy. My daughter and son-in-law's Dalmatian, who went through a moose antler in two days, still has one of these in decent shape after two months.

Great item for aggressive chewer
My dog is an aggressive chewer. He loves these! I had hoped it would stop him from chewing sticks and branches but it didn’t!

A bit smaller than expected
Dogs loved them but felt they were a bit smaller than expected. I had to take it away as I was afraid the dogs might choke / try to swallow.

Great Product
It was smaller than I thought, but it works great for my 9 month and 4 month old puppies. They liked the flavor and it is very durable. Probably not a good idea to take outside if you are surrounded by mud and/or dirt. Puppies will no longer want to play with it.
