Lady Lucille Daylily

‘Lady Lucille’ daylily is consistently on our Top 50 Best Sellers list partly due to its outstanding bloomability but also, if we’re being honest, because it’s simply a beautiful daylily. Intense, deep orange blooms are a large 6″ and shine in the garden. Petals are darker than sepals, with a deeper orange blush extending from the throat and a prominent yellow midrib. Tall scapes are approximately 2′ in our East Tennessee garden.

Lady Lucille is an All-American Daylily Selection meaning it has been proven to be successful across the country.

A mid to late season bloomer, we can typically expect to see this lovely daylily around the mid to late June or early July here in zone 7. If you are to the north of us, you can expect to see it a couple of weeks after we do. If you are to our south, you can look forward to seeing it a bit before us. A fantastic rebloom allows us to see its bright orange blooms off and on throughout the season.

Although listed as dormant, Lady Lucille has been proven to successfully grow in zones 3-10.

This bright orange beauty looks awesome in a mass display but we also love it paired with yellow, gold or hot pink for extra sizzle or dark purple for an arresting appearance in the mid to late summer garden.

Recommended for Small, Mellower Dogs, not the destructive, chewy kind

My dog loved this ball, maybe a little too much. He attacked it like it was a wild animal and left teeth marks and tears in the outer plastic. I decided to give it to my cats instead, who initially were very intrigued by it. The buff kitty even chirped to see it. He would roll around with it as it vibrated and hopped, but after a while he wasn’t that interested. I think I can get them to play with it if I don’t use it with them every day, maybe wait a few weeks between playtimes. Perhaps it is a little too large for cats. My dog, who is less than 30 lbs., might be too big for it, or maybe just his mouth is, or maybe because he’s a Boston Terrier and he always feels like it’s his duty to destroy all toys (all my Bostons were like that). But I don’t think I will let him have it again. Maybe a toy breed or puppy might be more of the appropriate size for this ball. Or someone who isn’t as destructive. The instructions are almost unreadable because the text is so small. I couldn’t understand what I was supposed to do with the “installation process.” I did figure out how to turn it on and off by myself, however. There are four modes when it is on: gentle, normal, active, and lighting only (no vibration). As a human, it is a fun thing to watch, even if it is just for the light show.

I have two 70+lb, ball obsessed dogs (a field bred Golden Retriever, and an Old Time Scotch Collie), and these balls are living up to the abuse they're receiving. In the fall we always lose a ball or two in the yard due to getting lost in leaves or longer grass, so I always try and buy a multi pack at the start of the season, so went with these this year. Great price for a 6 pack, they fit the medium Chuck-It launcher (a little loosely, but they throw just fine), have great bounce, they FLOAT (which means I didn't lose any at the beach), and they're super durable to the dreaded "mouth squish."
