Philodendron 'Majestic'

Philodendron 'Majestic' is a climbing hybrid of Philodendron verrucosum and Philodendron sodiroi, combining velvet texture, silver surface patterning, and warm colour on the leaf undersides. New leaves often open lighter before maturing into deeper green blades with a metallic cast. As the plant climbs, the leaves can become larger and more defined, especially when aerial roots are allowed to attach to a support.

Philodendron 'Majestic' was created by Keith Henderson and later named by Neil Crafter, and it has been accepted into the Aroid Cultivar Registry. The verrucosum × sodiroi parentage is visible in its velvet texture, silver patterning, warm leaf undersides and climbing growth.

  • Parentage: Philodendron verrucosum × Philodendron sodiroi.
  • Cultivar background: Created by Keith Henderson and later named by Neil Crafter.
  • Leaf surface: Dark green, softly textured leaves with silver mottling and a subtle metallic sheen.
  • Growth habit: Climbing Philodendron with aerial roots that develop best against a vertical support.

A registered verrucosum × sodiroi hybrid

Philodendron verrucosum contributes velvet texture, prominent venation and warm colouring beneath the leaves, while Philodendron sodiroi contributes silver patterning and climbing growth. On mature leaves, the silver mottling becomes clearer against the darker green surface.

A moss pole, coir pole, or similar support keeps the stem aligned and gives the nodes contact points for aerial roots. Supported growth helps the plant develop larger foliage and keeps the climbing stem easier to train as it matures.

Light, humidity and support for Majestic

  • Light: Provide bright filtered light. Avoid direct midday sun, which can mark the soft leaf surface and dry new growth too quickly.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate lightly and evenly moist, then let the upper few centimetres dry before watering again.
  • Substrate: Use a loose aroid mix with bark, pumice, perlite, coco chips, and a small moisture-retentive fraction.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new leaves expand cleanly and reduces crisping on soft edges.
  • Temperature: Keep it around 20–27°C. Cold wet substrate can quickly weaken the roots.
  • Support: Train the stem early and tie loosely at the nodes so aerial roots can attach without pressure damage.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth. A steady low-dose routine is safer than heavy feeding for velvet-leaved hybrids.

Leaf and root warning signs

  • Yellowing lower leaves with wet mix: Check drainage and root condition. Refresh compacted substrate if the pot stays wet for too long.
  • Crisp new edges: Check humidity, watering gaps, and airflow around expanding leaves.
  • Long gaps between leaves: Check light and support. A climbing stem stretches when it has weak light or nothing to root into.
  • Dull or marked silvering: Check for dust, old surface damage, and pests on the leaf undersides.

Handling and pet safety

Philodendron 'Majestic' is toxic if chewed. Its tissues contain calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat, digestive tract, and skin. Keep it out of reach of pets and children, and handle cut stems with care.

Parent names and cultivar background

Philodendron is an Araceae genus native from Mexico through tropical America. The genus name comes from Greek roots often translated as “loving” and “tree.” The parent epithet verrucosum refers to a warty or roughened surface, while sodiroi honours Luis Sodiro, a botanist associated with Ecuadorian flora.

Philodendron 'Majestic' combines velvet texture, silver mottling and warm leaf undersides in a registered verrucosum × sodiroi hybrid.

So far I like it
I bought this combo because I have used the ordinary before and liked the results. So far I’m not a fan of the lotion, feels a bit too thick for my liking. But other 2 products so far are making my skin look brighter and hydrated. I didn’t break out at first with the oil because I’m sensitive to too much oil but my skin adjusted to it. Definitely value for your money.

The first sunscreen that worked for my skin
I usually avoid wearing sunscreen because most of the ones I’ve tried make me break out. I have acne-prone skin, so finding a sunscreen that doesn’t clog my pores or cause new blemishes has always been a challenge. After trying Good Molecules Moisturizing Rich Sunscreen SPF 30, I was pleasantly surprised. The formula feels moisturizing without being overly greasy, and it absorbs nicely into my skin. It leaves my face feeling hydrated and comfortable throughout the day. Most importantly, I’ve been using it regularly and have not experienced the breakouts that I normally get from sunscreen. That alone makes this product a winner for me. I also like that it doesn’t have a strong fragrance and doesn’t leave my skin feeling heavy. While it has a richer texture than some sunscreens, it still wears well under makeup and doesn’t pill on my skin. The SPF 30 mineral protection gives me peace of mind knowing I’m protecting my skin from sun damage without sacrificing my skin’s overall appearance and health. If you’ve struggled to find a sunscreen that won’t trigger breakouts, I definitely recommend giving this one a try. Overall, I’m very impressed with this sunscreen and will continue repurchasing it. It’s one of the few sunscreens I’ve found that provides good sun protection while being gentle on my acne-prone skin. Rating: 5/5 stars.

Good facial sunscreen
I absolutely love the good molecules brand. This brand helps me keep my skin glowing and clear throughout all seasons especially since where I live has up and down weather. This sunscreen is super moisturizing. However coming from someone who’s black this does leave a minor white cast

Reapplication is important
I was looking for a moisturizing sunscreen I could wear on days when I’m not wearing makeup, mainly just to protect my face from sunburn while still keeping my skin hydrated. This one caught my attention because it’s a mineral sunscreen and also advertised as moisturizing. One of the things I really like is the price point. Compared to other similar sunscreens, this moisturizer is affordable and feels like a good value for daily use. It also gives me peace of mind knowing it is made without certain harsh or harmful chemicals, which was a big plus for me when choosing a sunscreen for my face. The texture is also decent—it feels more like a lightweight moisturizer than a heavy sunscreen, so it’s comfortable for everyday wear. One downside for me: I didn’t see anywhere in the product description that clearly emphasizes the need to reapply every 2 hours, which is standard for sunscreen but still something I wish was more obvious upfront. Realistically, most people don’t want to keep reapplying moisturizer throughout the day, especially when you’re just running errands or staying indoors near windows. Overall: It’s a good budget-friendly mineral sunscreen for daily use, especially if you’re looking for something simple and moisturizing. Just be aware that like all sunscreens, consistent reapplication is important for full protection.
