Lizard Tail Succulent Overview and Care Guide

The Lizard Tail succulent, scientifically known as Crassula perfoliata var. Falcata, is a distinctive and beautiful succulent known for its unique leaf shape and vibrant color. Often referred to as the "Propeller Plant" due to its unusual, fan-like arrangement of leaves, this plant is native to South Africa. The Lizard Tail succulent’s leaves resemble the tail of a lizard, tapering at the tip and forming a graceful, wheel-like shape that makes it stand out in any succulent collection or garden.

Key Characteristics and Care Tips for the Lizard Tail Succulent:

Foliage and Growth: The Lizard Tail succulent forms fan-shaped, blue-green leaves that radiate out from the center of the plant, resembling a lizard’s tail. As the plant matures, the leaves often develop shades of red and orange at their tips, particularly when exposed to direct sunlight. The plant can grow up to 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) in height and spread up to 12 inches (30 cm) wide. It produces small star-shaped flowers in clusters during the blooming season, typically in late winter to spring.

Light Requirements: Lizard Tail succulents thrive in full sunlight and need at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight each day to maintain their vibrant colors and compact growth. Indoor plants should be placed near a bright, south-facing window, while outdoor plants should be placed in a sunny spot to encourage healthy growth and coloration. Insufficient light can lead to leggy growth and reduced coloration.

Watering: As a drought-tolerant succulent, the Lizard Tail succulent prefers deep watering, but only when the soil has completely dried out. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it’s crucial to allow the soil to dry between waterings. During the winter months, reduce watering as the plant enters a dormant phase. Be sure that the pot has good drainage to prevent water from accumulating in the bottom.

Temperature and Humidity: The Lizard Tail succulent enjoys warm temperatures ranging from 60°F to 85°F (15°C to 29°C). It is not frost-tolerant and should be brought indoors or kept in a sheltered spot if temperatures drop below 40°F (4°C). This plant thrives in low-humidity conditions, which mimic its native arid environment, making it ideal for dry, desert-like climates.

Soil: A well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix is best for the Lizard Tail succulent. You can add sand or perlite to the potting mix to improve drainage. The plant’s roots are highly sensitive to moisture retention, so using a soil mix that dries quickly is essential for preventing root rot.

Fertilizer: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed the Lizard Tail succulent with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks. Avoid fertilizing during the winter months when the plant is not actively growing. Over-fertilization can lead to excessive growth and weak stems, so it’s important to follow the recommended guidelines.

Repotting: Repot the Lizard Tail succulent every 1-2 years, or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one and has good drainage holes. Refresh the soil with a well-draining mix to promote healthy growth. The best time to repot is during the spring or early summer, when the plant is actively growing.

Pests and Problems: The Lizard Tail succulent is generally resistant to pests but may occasionally attract aphids, mealybugs, or spider mites. Inspect the plant regularly for any signs of pest infestations and treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary. As with all succulents, overwatering can lead to root rot, so avoid letting the plant sit in waterlogged soil.

Propagation: The Lizard Tail succulent can be propagated from leaf or stem cuttings. To propagate, cut a healthy leaf or stem, let it dry for a few days to callous, and then plant it in well-draining soil. The cutting will eventually root and begin to grow into a new plant. Propagation can also be done by separating offsets if the plant produces new growth near the base.

With its unique leaf shape, striking color changes, and ease of care, the Lizard Tail succulent is an attractive addition to any succulent garden, container display, or indoor space.

Interesting pillowcase that does run cool to the touch
To begin: I'm a 64 y/o woman who still gets hot flashes, despite air-conditioning and a fan blowing on me at night. It's the sheets off then blankets on routine that so many of us know. I ordered this pillowcase hoping that I would find some kind of relief in the night, even it was only for my head. The fabric is very unusual. It's a silky nylon blend, very swishy and soft. It reminds me of luxury, expensive women's lingerie. It's extremely slippery, moreso when you have your head on it; there certainly won't be any resistance or pulling on the hair all night. I washed it before using it, put it in a mesh bag to protect it from getting snagged. It washed and dried as good as new. One thing to note: because it is so slippery the pillow may want to slide a little out of the pillowcase. I slept quite well and did not experience any heat or sweating on it. The reason for the 4* and not 5* is the price, at almost $20 it is a bit pricey for a rectangle of nylon fabric. I could see if it were real silk, but it's not. Otherwise it's exactly what it purports to be.

It's fine
Size: Ultra Slim (2.75-Inch Height), Color: Blue
I got this because it was recommended for stomach and side sleeping. The pillow itself is luxury so soft. It isn't the pillows fault but when I sleep on my sides I sleep on my arms and my neck pain hasn't subsided at all. It's been about four nights so far. I ordered one for my husband also cause he likes flat pillows and he absolutely loves it. If it changes for me I'll update.
