Kale- Lacinato (Heirloom)

Brassica oleracea

Lacinato kale, with it's dark blueish-green leaves, is one more commonly found in the grocery store, but growing this extremely hearty crop is easy and way more gratifying! Like other kales, it is a cool season biennial crop, typically grown as an annual. It's long history in Italian cuisine is why some call it Italian kale or Tuscan kale. The dark and bumpy appearance is why some call it dinosaur kale. No matter what you call it, it's delicious sweet nutty flavor quickly sautéed in olive oil with some garlic and a little balsamic vinegar makes it one of the easiest and most delicious side dishes.  Not to mention it's a nutritional powerhouse, packed with tons of vitamins A. C, K, B6, manganese, copper, calcium, and magnesium!

One of my favorite ways to plant kale, is to draw a line in the soil, at proper planting depth (1/2"), and sprinkle the seeds in about 1/8 to 1/4 inch apart, the entire row. As the plants grow, and begin to crowd each other, I begin to thin by harvesting out entire plants, about every other one. Baby kale plants, taste amazing. I will continue to take out every other plant or two, about every week, until I reach proper plant spacing. At that time, I begin to harvest the biggest leaves off the remaining plants, until the season is over.

My dog loves this toy and she hasn’t chewed it up yet.
Size: Medium
This is a good chew toy for my aggressive chewer. I bought the large size for my medium size dog.

My Samoyed loved this!
Size: Medium
My dog’s favorite thing. This is his 4th toy and he loves it. The quality is great and it lasts very long. Definitely worth every penny you spend. It keeps my samoyed engaged every morning and every night. There is no choke hazard, so all dogs can use it

Long lasting
Size: Medium
My dogs love these and they last pretty long. I take them away when they get very small so I think they’re pretty safe.

Meant for bigger dogs than mine
Size: Small
I bought this for my 10 month old pup who’s a VERY aggressive chewer. I’m going to say this is made for a large, older (than mine) dog. She tried to chew a couple times but eventually just walked away from it when I offered it to her and she had only made a few scratches in it. If you have that bigger dog that’s an aggressive chewer, it would be a good value for your money and will keep the engagement high for a long time with its heavy duty quality.

Finally… a dog chew that doesn’t become a homemade prison shank
Size: Medium
My dog has a real talent: turning every “tough chew” into a sharp, weaponized shard that could star in an episode of Locked Up: Canine Edition. But THIS chew? Absolute game changer. For the first time ever, I can relax—no splinters, no pointy edges, no fear he’s secretly crafting a shiv under the couch. Just happy, safe chewing that actually lasts longer than five minutes. It’s durable, it’s safe, it keeps him busy, and I no longer feel like I’m living with a furry little inmate planning an escape. Highly recommend if your dog chews like he’s got nothing but time.
