Anthurium Black Love, also called flamingo flower or flame tongue, stands out from all other varieties by its bracts of an intense dark burgundy, almost black, which sharply contrast with the bright red shades of classic Anthuriums. Its dark green, glossy foliage enhances this graphic and refined effect. Discover our full selection in the Anthurium collection or among our flowering indoor plants.

Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, the Anthurium thrives in warm and humid conditions, under filtered light similar to that of an understory. Easy to care for, it is ideal for bright interiors without direct sunlight.

Exposure & location

Anthurium Black Love prefers indirect natural light and bright rooms without direct sun. It adapts very well to apartment living and grows easily in a living room, bedroom, or office.

  • Exposure: bright indoor with partial shade — an east or north-facing window is perfect.
  • Ideal for: living room, bedroom, or office.
  • Temperature: between 18 °C and 26 °C, protected from cold drafts.
  • Substrate: light, rich, and well-drained potting soil.

Watering & care

  • Watering: about once a week — let the surface of the substrate dry slightly between waterings.
  • Drainage: essential to avoid water stagnation and root rot risk.
  • Fertilizer: every 6 to 8 weeks in spring and summer to support flowering.
  • Humidity: prefers a slightly humid atmosphere — mist the foliage occasionally or group several plants together. Our light and humidity guide gives you all the keys.
  • Maintenance: remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms.

Decor ideas & plant pairings

With its deep red bracts and glossy foliage, Anthurium Black Love is an ideal accent plant — placed on a console or side table, it commands attention at eye level.

  • Pair with: a Calathea medallion placed beside it — the green and burgundy marbled foliage of the Calathea echoes the dark tones of the bract and creates an immediate texture contrast.
  • Decorative pot: a white Gabriel decorative pot or a gold Mayk contrasts elegantly with the dark tones of the bract.
  • In classic red version: pair it with its counterpart the Anthurium Red for a graphic and intense floral duo.

Verdeia tips

  • Non-calcareous water: use filtered or room temperature water — lime dulls the foliage and disrupts nutrient absorption.
  • Avoid direct sunlight: it burns the bracts and quickly fades the colors — Anthurium prefers soft, consistent light.
  • Stimulate flowering: systematically remove faded spathes and lightly fertilize in spring to encourage new bracts.

Superb
Format: Hardcover
A superb selection of Williams' poetry in a handsome and durable small volume. The editor, Robert Pinsky, selected an appropriate spectrum of Williams' verse across his long career, including all his most famous poems. Reading and rereading these poems is always rewarding because of Williams' ability to capture arresting images, experiences, and states of mind. As with all anthologies, some choices may be arguable. I would like to see all of his great, late poem Asphodel included but Pinsky's choices make sense and reflect his sure knowledge of Williams' work. This book is a great addition to the worthy American Poets Project.

Another excellent volume from the American Poets Project
Format: Hardcover
As stated in another one of my reviews, every single Library of America volume I've ever purchased (including volumes from the American Poets Project) have been of the highest quality, superbly executed and just plain beautiful. Already possessing several volumes of William Carlos Williams work, I purchased this compact, delightful volume as a gift for my oldest son (who shares my appreciation for both great literature generally, and poetry specifically). Upon its arrival (delayed, once again, by amazon's ridiculously slow delivery) I was more than pleased, and felt proud to be presenting my son with such a first rate representation of W.C.W.'s work.

they are still as good as they were when they were first written
Format: Kindle
I've been reading William Carlos Williams since the seventies. His poetry was ground breaking at the time of there release, and to me, they are still as good as they were when they were first written. His portrayals of every day people and pastoral scenes are still worth reading. His rhythms in his short poems are worth studying for any poet. I recommend reading his selected Poems.
