Aglaonema pumilum

Aglaonema pumilum is a low-growing accepted Aglaonema species from southern Myanmar to southern Thailand. It grows with slender stems and ovate to lance-shaped leaves that can appear plain green or softly ashy-blotched.

This forest-floor species keeps a decumbent structure in a pot. Its slender stem base needs warmth, gentle watering and an airy substrate that never stays dense around the roots.

Aglaonema pumilum from evergreen forest habitats

  • Stem habit: Decumbent stems keep the plant close to the substrate surface.
  • Leaf shape: Ovate to lance-shaped leaves stay relatively short.
  • Leaf colour: Leaves may be plain green or lightly marked with ashy blotching, depending on the plant.
  • Stem detail: Slender stems may show reddish tones, with papery cataphylls around the leaf bases.
  • Origin: The species is native to wet evergreen forest regions from southern Myanmar to southern Thailand.
  • Pot behaviour: The low stem structure needs an airy mix and careful moisture around the root zone.

Low stems on Aglaonema pumilum

Aglaonema pumilum stays close to the substrate surface as it develops. The stems are slim, the leaves remain relatively short, and older papery cataphylls can remain around the leaf bases as part of the plant’s natural growth.

Pot size and substrate texture matter around this root system. Roots in a heavy, wet pot can decline quickly, while a loose mix gives the stem base air and keeps moisture more even.

Care for Aglaonema pumilum

  • Pot size: Use a modest pot that dries at a steady pace around the root zone.
  • Water: Water carefully once the upper substrate has started to dry, then let the pot drain well.
  • Light: Bright filtered light keeps growth compact while protecting the leaves from direct sun scorch.
  • Substrate: Use a fine but airy mix with coir, bark and mineral drainage around the root system.
  • Temperature: Keep the plant warm; cold damp substrate can damage the lower stem and roots.
  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity helps new leaves open smoothly from the tight growth points.
  • Feeding: Use a diluted fertiliser during active growth to avoid salt stress around the roots.

Common issues with Aglaonema pumilum

  • Soft lower stem: Check the root zone if the pot stays wet, smells sour or the stem becomes unstable.
  • Leaf lesions: Dark, water-soaked spots need better airflow and cleaner watering around the foliage.
  • Yellowing leaves: Reduce watering frequency if leaves yellow while the substrate remains heavy and damp.
  • Cold marks: Brown or translucent patches can appear after cold exposure, especially when the plant is wet.
  • Pests: Look closely between leaves and cataphylls for mealybugs, scale and mites.

Safety information for Aglaonema pumilum

Aglaonema pumilum contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate soft tissue if the plant is chewed. Keep it away from pets and children who may bite leaves or stems.

Botanical background of Aglaonema pumilum

The genus name Aglaonema combines Greek roots linked to brightness and thread-like stamens. Aglaonema pumilum was published by Joseph Dalton Hooker in 1893 in Flora of British India, and the species epithet pumilum means small or dwarf.

Aglaonema pumilum stays close to the substrate, with slender stems carrying ovate-to-lance-shaped leaves.

It’s really pretty decent except for one thing.
Color: Grey, Size: 34" - 4 Panel, Color: Grey, Size: 34" - 4 Panel
I bought two of these for my basement and they do look great. They were easy to assemble and I’m happy with them. The problem is that the stitching on the fabric panels are almost the size of a machine basting stitch (which for non sewers means large temporary stitches). Because the panels are tight by design, the stitches had already started to come undone before I could finish assembling everything. Fortunately I can sew and I reinforced all the panels. I had to take the first ones back off the poles to do them but I did the second set before assembling. It’s really not a bad product for the money. It’s quality fabric and the design itself looks great. The stitching looks fine but it’s just not substantial enough for the purpose it is supposed to serve. I can’t imagine why it be sewn so insufficiently. I was able to resolve my issue because I can sew. I wasn’t planning on sewing nor did I really have the time. I could have made it myself but I didn’t want to and that is why I purchased this. I ended up using valuable time. The really unfortunate thing is, I have no other complaints. This is a manufacturing problem.

We had a hot request for a workstation in the warehouse with some privacy. These have worked great. Easy to assemble. They are lightweight and stable. This was an inexpensive solution that looks professional. Our client loved it.

Dont wait! Assemble right away! Just in case you need to return it.
Color: Black, Size: 22" - 4 Panel
Ok, I like the idea of this but the assembly is frustrating. One side lined up perfectly with the holes however, the small bars that connect the screen to base is not lining up. I think it's do the fabric the screen or divider is made of. It's not stretchy. I brought this months ago and just opened it today. I'm upset and don't even think returning it is possible. If the material was a bit longer or stretchy to give a little room to work with this divider would be great. However, I'm not sure what I can use it for since I'm unable to attach it to the bottom. Beware! Don't wait like me. Tip for the manufacturer. Next time invest in Velcro dividers so the fabric can be adjusted with ease. Literally if I take the screen off the frame aligns perfectly. However, it defeats its purpose of privacy. I might buy some material myself and create a more flexible divider. Or I'll buy Velcro myself and attach to the bottom. I don't know yet.

Very practical and so far its working great.
This outlet extender is super practical! I installed it just behind a night stand to extend the outlet above it. The built in USB C ports can fast charge a Samsung S25 on a MagSafe base, so they are at least good for 15W. The outlet came disassembled and very well packed. There are 3 extensions included to change the reach of the outlet, but for a nightstand, a single extension was all that is needed. The outlets on the extender are nice and tight and like mentioned before, the USB ports work well and are very convenient to have. There is also an On/Off switch at the top of the extender you can use to turn off all the devices connected to it. Overall a great kit, that seems well made and should hopefully last a long time. So far I can recommend it.

Finally, a smart solution for that impossible outlet behind the couch
I have one specific outlet in my living room that drives me absolutely crazy. It’s directly behind our heavy sectional sofa, and every time I need to plug in a laptop charger or the vacuum, I have to literally wrestle the furniture away from the wall and blindly reach down into the dark. When I saw this TROND extendable outlet stick, I bought it immediately hoping it would solve that exact headache. It totally did. The design is brilliant. It’s modular, so you can adjust the length anywhere from 16 to 39 inches depending on how many segments you screw together. I used all three pieces so the actual power strip sits right at the perfect height just above the back of the couch. Now I have five outlets and two USB-C ports right where I can actually reach them. The USB-C ports charge my phone quickly, and having built-in surge protection gives me peace of mind for my electronics. Plus, the 360-degree rotating plug lies completely flat, so the couch can push all the way back against the wall without bending any cords. I did run into one quirky issue when installing it, which I took a couple of photos of to show you. In the US, our wall outlets are usually installed with the round ground prong on the bottom. However, the plug on this device is oriented with the ground prong on the top. If you plug it into a standard outlet, the cord wants to run upwards instead of down. Fortunately, it’s an incredibly easy DIY fix. I just went to my breaker box, shut off the power to the living room, unscrewed the wall outlet, flipped it upside down so the ground prong was on top, and screwed it back in. It took less than five minutes and completely solved the problem. Even with that minor orientation quirk, this thing is a total game-changer for awkward living room layouts. If you're tired of scraping your knuckles trying to reach behind furniture, this is worth every penny.
