Dracaena draco, commonly known as the Dragon tree or Dragon's blood tree, is a unique and iconic species native to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and Madeira. Here's a description of its key features:

Appearance: Dracaena draco is a slow-growing, evergreen tree with a distinctive, umbrella-shaped canopy. Mature specimens can reach heights of up to 12 meters (40 feet) or more. The trunk is stout, often swollen and gnarled, with a rough, grayish-brown bark that exfoliates in thin flakes to reveal a reddish underlayer.

Leaves: The leaves of the Dragon tree are long, narrow, and lanceolate, resembling sword blades. They are arranged in dense rosettes at the ends of the branches and have a leathery texture. The leaves are typically dark green, although they can sometimes have a bluish-gray hue.

Flowers: In mature specimens, Dracaena draco produces small, white to cream-colored flowers clustered on long panicles that emerge from the center of the rosettes. The flowers are fragrant and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Fruit: After flowering, the Dragon tree produces small, spherical berries that ripen to a reddish-orange color. These berries contain one or more seeds.

Resin: One of the most remarkable features of Dracaena draco is its resin, known as "dragon's blood." When the bark or leaves are wounded, they exude a deep red sap, which has been used for various purposes, including traditional medicine, dyeing, and varnish.

Habitat: Dracaena draco is well-adapted to arid and semi-arid environments, often growing in rocky coastal areas, cliffs, and hillsides. It is drought-tolerant and prefers well-drained, sandy soils.

Cultural significance: The Dragon tree has cultural and historical significance, with some specimens believed to be centuries old. It has been revered in folklore and mythology and is often associated with longevity, strength, and protection.

    Superb
    Format: Hardcover
A superb selection of Williams' poetry in a handsome and durable small volume. The editor, Robert Pinsky, selected an appropriate spectrum of Williams' verse across his long career, including all his most famous poems. Reading and rereading these poems is always rewarding because of Williams' ability to capture arresting images, experiences, and states of mind. As with all anthologies, some choices may be arguable. I would like to see all of his great, late poem Asphodel included but Pinsky's choices make sense and reflect his sure knowledge of Williams' work. This book is a great addition to the worthy American Poets Project.

Another excellent volume from the American Poets Project
    Format: Hardcover
As stated in another one of my reviews, every single Library of America volume I've ever purchased (including volumes from the American Poets Project) have been of the highest quality, superbly executed and just plain beautiful. Already possessing several volumes of William Carlos Williams work, I purchased this compact, delightful volume as a gift for my oldest son (who shares my appreciation for both great literature generally, and poetry specifically). Upon its arrival (delayed, once again, by amazon's ridiculously slow delivery) I was more than pleased, and felt proud to be presenting my son with such a first rate representation of W.C.W.'s work.

they are still as good as they were when they were first written
    Format: Kindle
I've been reading William Carlos Williams since the seventies. His poetry was ground breaking at the time of there release, and to me, they are still as good as they were when they were first written. His portrayals of every day people and pastoral scenes are still worth reading. His rhythms in his short poems are worth studying for any poet. I recommend reading his selected Poems.
