Good for beginners? Yes. Lipstick Plant is easier than it looks. It tolerates average home conditions, prefers to stay on the drier side, and is very forgiving of missed waterings. The curly leaf texture also makes it more drought-tolerant than flat-leafed varieties.
Safe for cats and dogs? Yes. Lipstick Plant is considered non-toxic to pets.
Light needs: Bright indirect light encourages the most prolific blooming. A spot near an east or west-facing window is ideal. In lower light the plant stays healthy but flowering is reduced.
Care at a glance: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. As an epiphyte it prefers lighter, well-draining soil. Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer. Trim lightly after blooming to keep growth full and bushy.
