Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’ is a rare and stunning hybrid variety from the Araceae family, admired for its rich red tones and glossy tropical foliage. This self-heading (non-vining) Philodendron is believed to be a hybrid between Philodendron ‘Congo Green’ and Philodendron ‘Congo Red’, combining the best features of both — strength, structure, and dramatic colour.

The plant produces broad, oval-shaped leaves that emerge in shades of deep burgundy or bronze-red before maturing into glossy dark green with a subtle reddish undertone. The strong, upright petioles remain richly coloured, creating a beautiful contrast against the mature foliage. Compact and architectural in form, Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’ is perfect as a statement piece for desks, tabletops, or as a bold floor plant in contemporary interiors.

Its elegant growth habit and striking coloration make it one of the most desirable Philodendron hybrids for collectors and tropical plant enthusiasts.

Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light. Too little light can dull the red tones, while too much direct sunlight may scorch the leaves. Ideal placement is near an east- or north-facing window.

Watering

Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist during the growing season but avoid waterlogging. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers warmth, 18–28°C. Protect from cold draughts and avoid temperatures below 15°C.

  • Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Mist occasionally or use a humidifier to maintain healthy foliage.

Soil and Potting

Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix – a blend of peat-free compost, orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir is ideal. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and promote healthy root growth.

Feeding

Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Stop feeding during the cooler winter months.

Pruning and Maintenance

Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base to maintain a tidy appearance. Wipe leaves occasionally with a soft, damp cloth to keep them glossy and dust-free. Rotate the plant every few weeks to ensure even growth.

Growth and Maturity

A moderate grower that can reach 60–90 cm tall indoors. The compact, upright growth habit makes it ideal for smaller spaces without sacrificing tropical impact.

Common Issues

  • Fading colour: Insufficient light.

  • Yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Brown tips: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.

  • Pests: Occasionally thrips, mealybugs, or spider mites.

Background and Benefits

Developed through selective hybridisation, Philodendron ‘Red Anderson’ was bred for its vibrant red foliage and robust growth. Its bold yet manageable size and resilience make it an excellent choice for both homes and offices. Like other Philodendrons, it helps purify indoor air, reducing airborne toxins while adding a lush, tropical touch.

Nice translation
Format: Paperback
It is not easy to translate poetry into poetry. It's bad enough simply trying to translate to prose. Ms. Terry does an excellent job. I read Le Roman de Renart in French while I was studying in France. Years later, I came across this translation. It is fascinating the way the original storytellers portrayed Renart. He is a completely hateful creature. Yet reading about him is fun. It's similar to how I feel about stories of Loki or Coyote. Renart is closer to Loki than to Coyote, despite the canine ancestry. He is more than simply a trickster: he is malevolent. If you have an interest in ancient folktales, you mustn't miss the story of Renart. This translation is different from any other I've read. The introduction gives a good perspective on the times when the stories were hatched.

Pretty good translation into English. Far from a complete collection, but certainly a good foundation.

Made for certain readers. 🤔
Format: Kindle
Not saying it is a bad book but... I could not understand it. If you like old English writing great! I support you in that but this book was not for me.
