  • Tradescantia albiflora 'Variegata' is a fast-growing, trailing houseplant with beautiful colorful striped foliage. Native to South America, particularly Brazil and surrounding areas, this variety of Tradescantia produces long, trailing stems lined with soft, lance-shaped leaves. The foliage displays a blend of light green, cream, and white striping, giving the plant a luminous, vibrant look that stands out in both hanging baskets and container arrangements. Its spreading, cascading habit makes it a versatile choice for adding texture and color to indoor spaces.

The leaves of Tradescantia albiflora 'Variegata' are typically about 2–3 inches long, arranged alternately along flexible stems. The variegation varies from leaf to leaf, with some showing bold creamy-white stripes and others appearing more softly blended. When grown in bright conditions, the colors remain sharp and pronounced, while lower light may cause the leaves to become greener. Mature stems can trail several feet if allowed, creating flowing curtains of foliage that move gently with air currents indoors.

Compared to other Tradescantia species like Tradescantia zebrina or Tradescantia fluminensis, Tradescantia albiflora 'Variegata' features softer, less metallic coloring and more delicate leaf texture. It tends to grow vigorously when provided with enough light and moisture, quickly filling containers or hanging baskets with dense, intertwined stems. Regular trimming helps encourage a fuller, bushier appearance and prevents the plant from becoming too leggy.

Despite its vigorous growth, Tradescantia albiflora 'Variegata' remains compact and easy to manage indoors with occasional pruning. Its bright variegation, soft texture, and forgiving nature make it one of the most attractive and beginner-friendly variegated houseplants available.

  • Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain sharp variegation and compact growth. In lower light, the plant may turn greener and become leggier.

Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, allowing excess water to drain freely. Avoid letting the plant sit in soggy soil, as this can lead to root rot.

Thrives in average to moderately high humidity, around 40–60%. It adapts well to typical indoor humidity but benefits from occasional misting during very dry seasons.

Grows best between 65–80°F. Protect from drafts and avoid temperatures below 50°F, which can cause damage to the stems and leaves.

Prefers a well-draining potting mix, such as a general houseplant soil blended with perlite or coarse sand for added aeration. Good drainage helps keep roots healthy.

Feed once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Pause fertilizing during the fall and winter months.

Tradescantia albiflora 'Variegata' is mildly toxic if ingested by pets and humans. Keep the plant out of reach to prevent accidental chewing or ingestion.

Ethiopia from the time when the Queen of Sheba ruled
Format: Kindle
Ethiopia has a long rich history that Captivating History managed to cover in 100 pages. This book starts out by letting us know that Ethiopia is one of the first places humans settled in. One of the first kingdoms in Ethiopia was the Kingdom of Aksum. Like most African countries, Aksum established trade routes and had the silk road running through their kingdom. The Queen of Sheba is a controversial historical leader. Many scholars believe she was queen in Ethiopia. The bible states that a queen of the south came to Israel to meet King Solomon. Historians believe that the queen of the south was in fact the Queen of Sheba. While the queen was there her and King Solomon became very close and when the Queen of Sheba returned to Ethiopia she had King Solomon's baby. Menelik I may have been King Solomon's son. Some believe that when Menelik I when to visit his father, King Solomon, Menelik returned to Ethiopia with the Ark of the Covenant. Some believe that the ark is hidden away in some Ethiopian monastery, still today. There is still a lot of Ethiopia's history left for you to learn about by reading this book.

History of Ethiopia
Format: Kindle
Ethiopia is an essential nation-state in Africa. It has a great civilization and history. The reign of Johannes IV was crucial to the Kingdom of Ethiopia. Moreover, Haile Selassie was another vital emperor. Ethiopia suffered under communism. Currently, Ethiopia faces foreign challenges from its neighbors and political corruption domestically. Specifically, political unrest dominates the domestic life of Ethiopia. The author presents and discusses the achievements and challenges of the Ethiopian people from Ancient Times to Modern Times. It is a well-written book.

Informative, compact history of rulers, religion and struggles.
Format: Kindle
This book is well written. It filled out my knowledge of Ethiopia, which was mostly that it was isolated from neighbors and most empires. I had heard of biblical contacts, two Italian invasions, civil wars and famines. In this book I learned of contacts with ancient Rome, Byzantium, the Ottomans, and Arabs. Trade carried on the silk road, and by sea. There was influence of Judaism, Islam and competing Christian sects. The sequence of leaders were covered as well as how they came to power. Many conflicts are covered, insurrections and invasions. The Haile Selassie period is covered, as well as his downfall. Then the military period is covered, with communism and factionalism. Finally the recent period is covered,up to the present civil wars of 2022. I would recommend this compact book, for anyone planning a visit, or wanting background knowledge.
