Description:
The Carnegiea gigantea, commonly known as the Saguaro Cactus, is an iconic symbol of the American Southwest. These have been growing in our Florida greenhouses for over 25 years. This majestic cactus is renowned for its towering stature, with mature specimens reaching heights of up to 40 feet and living for over 150 years. Its ribbed, columnar body features a smooth green exterior adorned with small clusters of spines. As it matures, it develops distinctive upward-curving arms that give it a dramatic, tree-like appearance.

During the spring and early summer, Carnegiea gigantea produces large, white flowers with a delicate fragrance that attract pollinators like bats, bees, and birds. These flowers are followed by bright red, edible fruits, a favorite among desert wildlife and humans alike.

The Saguaro is a slow-growing species, making it suitable for container gardening when young, with eventual potential for landscaping in large, arid spaces.

Light Requirements:

Thrives in full sun and requires at least 8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Ensure adequate sunlight to support healthy growth and flowering.

Watering Needs:

Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Reduce watering during the winter months when the cactus enters dormancy. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and thrives with minimal water.

Temperature Tolerance:
